The Survivalists is an action adventure game with strategic and survival elements. In this production, we try to survive on a threatening, deserted island - and we can do it alone or in the company of a few friends. The title was developed and published by the well-known Team17 studio - industry veterans responsible, among others for such hits from the 90s as Alien Breed or Worms.
The Survivalists takes place in the world known from the series The Escapists. Players take on the role of survivors stuck on a dangerous, deserted island.
In The Survivalists, we observe the action from above, from the so-called top-down perspective. The fun is about exploring the two-dimensional game environment, collecting and creating items, hunting animals and mythical beasts, as well as performing various types of tasks - the latter come from a character called Mysterious Stranger or we find them on the seashore. It is worth noting that the locations are randomly generated, so the gameplay looks a bit different each time. On the island you can also find a wide variety of different places - incl. forests, mountains or dungeons.
The crafting system plays an important role in Team17 - we can create both simple items (e.g. improvised weapons) and more advanced things (shelters, buildings). The monkeys that we find on the island can help us in work (but also in combat) - provided that we train them properly in advance. This solution adds a bit more strategic depth to the game.
While playing, we can also explore ancient temples that can be found on the map. There are very valuable treasures inside, but getting them will not be an easy task. We can play The Survivalists alone or with others. The game offers a single player mode, but we can count on the best fun by playing in online cooperation with three friends.
The Survivalists has fairly simple, two-dimensional graphics, which can still catch the eye, mainly due to the interesting artistic style and well-designed animations. The character and environment models are quite detailed. It is also worth paying attention to the pleasant, warm color palette.
