It continues the theme of its predecessors, but is full of changes and innovations. The theater of action has changed, now it is not the whole Earth but one century Mega-Prime metropolis. "X-COM Interceptor" is the fourth game in the series published by Microprose, which was started by the famous "UFO: Enemy Unknown" and tells about the clashes between the human race and predatory alien species. The "Interceptor" does not have such an extensive plot as its predecessors, but it is distinguished by the addition of elements known from popular space shooters. The player still has to manage the base of the organization established to fight against space invaders, i.e. build new buildings, raise funds or take care of constant technological development. The main difference is the need to play space battles, in which you sit at the controls of one of the allied ships. Importantly, this element completely replaced the ground battles in the turn-based system known from previous games of "X-COM"."Interceptor" is the first game in the series that allows you to fight multiplayer duels in which two to eight players can meet. In singleplayer, the player has to deal with three types of missions. Investigating the places where enemy spaceships have been spotted and making controlled attacks in designated places is necessary to complete the game. The third type of missions are optional tasks, thanks to which you can only improve your final result. The player also has to take care of other squadron members - hire new pilots, prepare additional fighters or take care of the best possible weapons. Technological progress is largely based on Alien constructions. So, after capturing an enemy ship, you can count on additional bonuses. The spaceships appearing in the game can be controlled using a mouse, keyboard or an analog controller. The flight model is quite simplified and far from realistic simulations like "X-Beyond the Frontier".

They do this by choosing from several actions available in a given turn. An important role in the game is to obtain technologies and bodies of opponents from the battlefields, which can be used for scientific research and allow you to discover new weapons or useful items.Compared to the original, Terror from the Deep introduces several significant novelties. The authors have prepared a set of completely new weapons and enemies to better fit the realities of the war fought mainly under water. Soldiers can now also be equipped with melee weapons to be able to successfully duel with aliens in close combat. A new scientific development tree has also been developed for the game.
