Family Thai - Arnold Myint - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

Family Thai - Arnold Myint - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

James Beard–nominee and chef of the Thai restaurant International Market in Nashville, Arnold Myint shares how to make the Thai food he grew up with in a cookbook that is approachable yet packs a punch of flavor Arnold Myint grew up as a restaurant kid and was lucky enough to be surrounded by delicious Thai food. His parents, Thai and Burmese immigrants, first opened Nashville’s International Market & Restaurant in 1975—a rarity in Tennessee, where Asian cuisine hadn’t quite expanded beyond Americanized Chinese takeout. The Myints were determined to introduce Americans to the fiery, bold, and fragrant Thai flavors that had always brought them comfort, and it turned out that a taste of Thailand was exactly what Nashville needed. Almost 45 years later, after attending culinary school in New York City and working with Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Arnold now owns and runs International Market, where he continues to serve the comforting, soul-feeding recipes of his mother while also jazzing things up with his own Thai-Southern flare. During the pandemic, Arnold began reaching out to an all-new audience as well through Instagram, teaching “Thai 101” basics to an ever-growing number of viewers. Now Arnold—who also happens to be a fabulous drag queen under the alter ego Suzy Wong—is expanding his teaching on the food of Thailand to a vibrantly illustrated and designed cookbook. In Family Thai , Arnold breaks down an often-intimidating cuisine into accessible building blocks for every home cook, beginning with pantry staples—what’s fish sauce? what are the differences between soy sauces?—and moving on to teaching readers essential skills like how to steam the perfect sticky rice or how to make their own noodles if they can’t find them stocked nearby. Arnold also shares what he likes to cook at home and adaptations of Thai cuisine that have been inspired by his hometown of Nashville and his travels around the world. From there, he takes us into the vibrant and colorful world of Thai street food—including shumai, shrimp toast, curry puffs, and more— classic noodle dishes, his own original creations, and, of course, his mother’s classic recipes. Longtime fans of International Market, who have been begging for their favorite classic recipes for years, will find them among these pages. When Thais greet each other, they don’t ask how are you or what’s up? Instead, they ask, Kin lao yang? or have you eaten? Feeding people is how Patti and Win Myint—and now Arnold—show their love, not just for their family but for everyone within reach. In Family Thai , Arnold shares his boldly flavorful food and welcoming, heartfelt approach with home cooks everywhere.

The Prisoner of Shiverstone - Linette Moore - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

A positively ingenious story about a mysterious island, long-lost secrets, and a young girl’s quest in the world of mad science, Linette Moore’s debut middle-grade graphic novel, The Prisoner of Shiverstone , “is a good mix of fantasy, mystery, and action” ( Horn Book ). Eleven-year-old Helga Sharp is found unconscious in a drifting rowboat near the coast of Utley Island. Utley, as Helga finds out when she awakens in the hospital, is forbidden territory: It’s a prison island to which the Mainland has exiled troublesome mad scientists for generations. Helga is questioned by the island’s guards and though they’re suspicious of her story, they agree to let her stay until they find her family. The truth is, it’s no accident that Helga landed here. She is a keen inventor, but the Mainland is suspicious of all scientists and inventors. While working on her projects in secret, Helga made radio contact with Erasmus Lope, a mad genius who everyone thought had died in a lab experiment gone spectacularly wrong. But Lope is alive, and Helga is on a mission to rescue him from the prison island. Now Helga must find a way to break Lope out, right under the noses of the family of famous heroes that run Utley Island. There’s only one big problem—Lope’s trapped inside a giant crystal in the mad scientists’ museum! Fans of Red’s Planet and Suee and the Shadow are sure to love The Prisoner of Shiverstone , a charismatically illustrated mad science adventure for readers of all ages.

Third Culture Cooking - Zaynab Issa - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

Third Culture cooking is American cooking: Delicious everyday multicultural recipes, borrowing from our parents and their parents’ homes, melding the old with the new and the familiar with the unfamiliar to create bold flavors and new classics for the next generation of cooks. The food that author Zaynab Issa cooks—inspired by her East African and South Asian roots, the American suburban delights she grew up eating, and her international travels—is packed with unique and flavorful riffs. Her affectionate homages to the chain restaurants we love are reflected here: fluffy cinnamon rolls that rival Cinnabon’s, Baskin Robbins–inspired almond fudge squares, and an artichoke dip that recalls TGI Fridays’ delights that will make you want to stay in. To complete the collection, Zaynab looked to her primary inspiration, the women who’ve fed her, and meticulously recorded her favorite traditional dishes from each of them. Beyond the recipes, Zaynab shares her tips on establishing yourself as a confident cook—one who prepares food consciously, hosts with pride, and is never without a well-stocked pantry. The book includes sections like "Set Yourself Up for Success," which outlines Zaynab’s essential kitchen tools and ingredients, "On Food & Feelings" to guide the reader through cooking based on their mood, and "Host with the Most" featuring suggested menus and Zaynab’s method for executing any organized dinner. Finally, look to "Eating with Your Eyes" for her philosophy on serving beautiful food. For extravagant entertaining as well as weeknight ease, Third Culture Cooking is a love letter to American home-cooking and the many influences that make it so. But things are just different after her father passed away. Without him, nothing about her world feels the same. Things start to get a little better when Rowan brings her dad’s old camera to Central Park to take pictures. But as she’s snapping photos, she notices a strange mirror-like shape floating in the air. When she gets closer to it, she trips and falls through the portal, and after she lands, she finds herself in a different world: Seneca Village, where Black people with magical abilities seem to live in the past, in a time without phones or electricity. At first, Rowan thinks it must be a dream, but the more time she spends in the village with her new friend Lily, the more she wants it to be real. But outsiders aren’t even supposed to be able to find Seneca. Rowan and Lily aren’t sure how Rowan was able to see the portal, but they suspect it might have something to do with the girl who normally guards the portal having gone missing.
