Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - Aiko's Choice is a tactical strategy game developed by Mimimi Games studio. The title is a standalone expansion to the well-received Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. Unlike its predecessor, Aiko's Choice was released only for PCs.The action of the game takes place in 17th-century Japan during the early Edo era. The story is a continuation of the events shown in Shadow Tactics. The main character is known from the previous game kunoichi Aiko. After saving Japan from the mysterious Kage-sama, she unexpectedly comes face to face with her past. Together with her friends, Aiko embarks on a battle against a new enemy with a strong connection to her former life.Aiko's Choice does not significantly change the formula known from the original. We're still dealing with a real-time stealth strategy here. We have several heroes at our disposal, each with unique skills. For example, the title Aiko is a master of camouflage, she can dress up as a geisha and talk to enemies for subversive purposes. Despite their competence, the heroes have no chance in open combat with a larger group of opponents. Moreover, the death of any of the playable characters means the end of the game. The basis of the game is, therefore, to pass the levels quietly, eliminate enemies from hiding or avoid them.The game is difficult but fair, it allows you to save the game unlimitedly at almost any time and never skimp on the player's information. The encountered guards have vision cones that show their range of sight. Killed or stunned adversaries can be moved to hide their bodies. At any time, we can also place a marker on the map and see which enemies are able to see it. There are many interactive objects on the maps with which we can eliminate guards by simulating accidents. If the enemy notices us or the body we have abandoned, it will raise an alarm. During an alarm, the guards carefully comb the area and receive the support of additional patrols.One of the most important elements of the game is the shadow mode, thanks to which we can synchronize the actions of our heroes. By running it, we can give commands to several units at once. After exiting shadow mode, they will execute their orders at the same time.
