Troubleshooting and Root Cause Failure Analysis - Jr Lanthier - Bog - Industrial Press Inc.,U.S. - Plusbog.dk

In the field of maintenance, good problem-solving practices are among the most important elements to maximizing equipment uptime, and by resolving the root cause of the failure, in increasing equipment reliability. To be successful, an organization must be able to resolve the effects of a failure quickly so that it can go back to normal, and, in some cases, determine the cause of the failure so that a permanent solution can be identified and implemented. These are two distinct requirements (troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis), with distinctive requirements. Both are important, and one cannot exist without the other if we want to be efficient and effective in resolving asset failures. This work takes a unique approach to equipment failure-related problem solving by presenting both types of failure resolution techniques, the purpose of each, and describing how best to use them. In presenting root cause failure analysis, the book distinguishes between information gathering and failure analysis. It provides five information gathering methods and three root cause analysis methods from the 5-Whys to Logic Tree Analysis to Single Functional Failure RCM. It follows a structured approach to managing the RCFA, from stabilizing the site and gathering information, to implementing and sustaining the results, to leveraging the solution. This book provides practical methods and tools needed to achieve problem-solving goals and objectives, both when troubleshooting a problem as well as when determining a permanent solution. All of this information is kept to a concise and extremely readable length and format. The market needs a practical troubleshooting and RCFA guide that is not software specific and that provides a clear, structured approach to both. This work is that rare find. Features - Explores problem solving as a science. - Focuses on how to help an organization be successful, both at quickly getting the plant back in operation, and defining permanent solutions. - The only book to detail troubleshooting and RCFA under the same cover.

Plumbing Licensing Study Guide - Mark R. Miller - Bog - Industrial Press Inc.,U.S. - Plusbog.dk

This book is designed for use as both a text and study guide for those students taking the licensing test in plumbing. Because of the large number of residential dwellings under construction and planned for the near future, this is a growing area. Well trained and knowledgeable plumbers are urgently needed in most of the individual United States and Canada. The field of plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters is predicted to grow about 12% each year until 2024, faster than most professions. The onslaught of new buildings is behind this surge. Here, in one book, the entire plumbing trade is covered in one accessible source. Consideration is given to cover all states’ exam requirements. Tools and instruments are included to familiarize the licensing candidates with labor-saving devices and their correct utilization. While there are hundreds of practice exam questions, there is no guarantee that these questions and answers will appear on the actual test, or that the reader will pass the exam by simply reading this book. The main emphasis is on getting the tradesman accustomed to testing and knowledgeable about the plumbing trade in general. While there used to be several good resources for those studying to become licensed plumbers, these are quite old and rather outdated. This textbook/study guide will fill a void in this increasingly important trade. Features - Includes valuable tips and illustrations of the various tools and equipment used in the trade. - Practice questions with answers (at least 400 in the book, and several hundred more on an affiliated website) will be included at the end of each chapter, organized according to the various aspects of the trade. - Some suggestions for taking tests and studying for exams are also discussed, along with tips for instructors who are preparing lesson plans and curricula for teaching plumbing certification. - An affiliated website will have additional test questions, videos, and color photographs of the more eye-catching scenarios in the book.

Choosing & Using the Right Metal Shop Lathe - Richard Rex - Bog - Industrial Press Inc.,U.S. - Plusbog.dk

Choosing & Using the Right Metal Shop Lathe - Richard Rex - Bog - Industrial Press Inc.,U.S. - Plusbog.dk

Investing in a new metalworking lathe is a big step for any shop (especially home shops), where there’s usually no one around to help. Once the lathe is up and running, you should theoretically be able to make the special items you previously did without (or paid through the nose for), such as shafts, plain, tapered or threaded discs, bearings, and so on. But if you are new to this, you’ll want to know a lot more than you can learn from the salesman or the manual. Does the lathe really match your needs, and if so, how much? Choosing & Using the Right Metal Shop Lathe is an essential source of information for lathe buyers and users at every level, from mini-size tabletops up to industrial machines weighing half a ton or more. It answers the question of what else you will need to get useful work from the machine. For instance, what comes as “standard equipment” with the lathe? Most include a chuck (usually a 4-jaw independent, not the self-centering 3-jaw you’ll want to use most of the time), maybe a faceplate (rarely used), and a 4-way toolholder you will probably swap right away for a more sensible design. Never included is a tailstock drill chuck, an essential accessory you will need from day one—and the same goes for actual cutting tools. Almost certainly, there won’t be a digital readout (DRO), which used to be regarded as a “maybe-someday” luxury—but not anymore. The work talks about cutting oils, cutting speeds and easier-to-machine materials, and it cautions against buying sets of anything, vs. buying the one accessory you’ll truly need. Finally, there are chapters on building a tailstock drill press, a special toolpost for easy screw cutting, and a precision grinder for lathe tools that can be made from oddments of material in a couple of days or less. Features - Differentiates between the truly essential features (screw-cutting) and the nice-to-have (power feeding), spindle speed selection from a gearbox (typical) or continuously variable (more convenient). - Offers advice on screw-cutting US and metric threads, and handling the machinist’s most trouble-prone actions, such as knurling and parting off. - Provides a workpiece tutorial that demonstrates many of the commonplace lathe routines—ideal for first-time users.
