Fingerstyle Guitar - New Dimensions And Explorations Volume Three

Fingerpicking Blues Guitar In The Key Of G

Fingerpicking Blues Guitar In The Key Of G

Fingerpicking Blues Guitar is a never ending study full of surprises and discoveries. Each key of the Guitar offers new sounds and textures. A blues played in the key of C sounds world's apart from a blues played in the keys of A, G, D or E. This series focuses on a single key for each lesson. The key of G offers specific advantages. It is ideal for the alternating bass technique i.e. Mississippi John Hurt's style of playing.   In this lesson, we start by learning an arrangement of Marshall Owens' 1930s recording of Try Me One More Time . This was originally played in an Open G tuning but is here arranged in standard tuning using a John Hurt approach. Not all blues from the 1920s and 1930s were fingerpicked. Jim Jackson was a popular Memphis songster who basically strummed his Guitar. But his repertoire was full of wonderful songs. Stefan Grossman has taken his Wild About My Loving and has tried to keep the original feel by combining a strum approach intermingled with fingerpicking the melody. Little Hat Jones was an amazing fingerstyle bluesman.   His Bye Bye Baby Blues was played in the key of G. Here his version is fully transcribed note for note. Blind Boy Fuller recorded many blues in the key of G. In this lesson we'll tackle three of his arrangements: Baby Let Me Lay It On You, Baby Quit Your Low Down Ways and I Crave My Pigmeat . We study his playing note for note but also explore variations. By the end of this lesson you will know six great tunes and have an insight in to fingerpicking blues in the key of G.   A detailed tab/music booklet is included as a PDF file on the DVD. Each tune is taught phrase by phrase and played slowly on a split-screen. As well, the original old recordings are included in the Bonus Audio section. Titles include: Try Me One More Time, Wild About My Loving, Bye Bye Baby Blues, Baby Let Me Lay It On You, Baby Quit Your Low Down Ways and I Crave My Pigmeat . 100 minutes • Level 2/3 • Detailed tab/music PDF file on the DVD.

The Beatles In Liverpool

The Beatles In Liverpool

The story of The Beatles and their native city is one of Rock 'n' Roll's most colourful legends. Even so, until now it has usually been a story patchily told. The Beatles in Liverpool, a companion title to The Beatles in Hamburg, now recreates the authentic flavour of the time and the place that produced the world's most influential rock band.Beatles historian Spencer Leigh separates fact from fiction, while a vividly evocative selection of photographs brings Liverpool's contemporary post-war cityscape to gritty life. Here too is the real story of the Beatles' earliest musical influences as well as the significant - if less obvious - effect of Liverpool's thriving arts culture, where everything from painting to performance art helped to give this tough industrial port its creative heart as well as its abrasive sense of humour.Set in the context of the city, The Beatles' formative period becomes a more coherent story, complementing the Hamburg days and explaining why, despite their differing personalities and collective talents, The Beatles were united by a shared culture that was unlike that of any other British city of the time.Featuring exclusive interviews with fellow musicians, promoters, club managers, audience members, fans, friends and family, together with rare photographs and memorabilia, The Beatles In Liverpool is the definitive, fully illustrated account of the formative years of a legendary band. Fittingly, this book is published on the fiftieth anniversary of the release of their first single, "Love Me Do".

Pink Floyd Mind Over Matter 5th Ed

Pink Floyd Mind Over Matter 5th Ed

Written by Storm Thorgerson , the designer for the majority of Pink Floyd 's albums, this luxurious book features fascinating information and brilliantly vivid photographs that tell the instantly-recognisable story of one of the greatest bands ever. An essential book for any Floyd fan. This is the 5th edition of a book that includes some of the most famous artworks ever, by one of the most loved artists ever, about possibly the greatest rock band ever. That sounds like an exaggeration, but the wealth of stunning images contained within, album covers, posters, band photographs, adverts, flyers, T-shirts, and so on, will easily convince you that all three of those statements are true.  The late Storm Thorgerson first met David Gilmour at school when they were both teenagers, he then went on to found the graphic design company Hipgnosis, before founding Stormstudios later on. His list of works is almost endless, but it's those iconic Pink Floyd images that are the focus of Mind Over Matter . The Dark Side of the Moon album cover was designed by this man, the Wish You Were Here album cover was designed by him, nearly all of the other iconic album covers and art was designed by Thorgerson,  whose tragic death in 2013 left the art world reeling. Mind Over Matter  is about the instantly-familiar and hugely well-loved art of the psychedelic progressive-rock band Pink Floyd , whose album covers were almost as well-known as their music. Featuring full-colour and high-quality imagery interspersed with Storm Thorgerson's  words telling the story of how he came to produce such artworks that have now attained near-mythical status, this book is an absolute must for fans of Pink Floyd , album art, or even art in general.  Thorgerson 's style was to use photography - the medium of the real - and juxtapose everyday objects in extraordinary situations, thereby exposing and enhancing their stark beauty. Beauty is what this book is about, and it's pure joy to pore over, enhanced no doubt by listening to the legendary music while you do it!
