Pleached Japanese Privet Variegated. Ligustrum Japonicum Variegatum Pleached. Evergreen Pleached Trees for Screening

Pleached Japanese Privet Variegated. Ligustrum Japonicum Variegatum Pleached. Evergreen Pleached Trees for Screening

Pleached Japanese Privet Tree Variegated. Latin Name: Ligustrum Japonicum Variegatum. These are evergreen pleached trees for screening.Ligustrum Japonicum Variegatum is the variegated form of the well-loved evergreen Japanese Privet Tree with green and cream foliage. Also known as Variegated Japanese Privet, in its pleached form, this variety boasts a raised square crown above a clear-stem trunk of 80cm. The leaves are bright green with cream margins, and they will stay on the tree throughout the seasons. Variegated Japanese Privet produces panicles of white flowers in late summer followed by dark berries. This is a compact tree with dense-growing foliage, making it well-suited to evergreen screening. Pleached trees with their long clear stems are highly distinctive. They are often used both as evergreen screening in the form of a pleached hedge above the fence line. To achieve the recognisable square shape of the tree’s crown, it takes much pruning and training. At Paramount Plants and Gardens, we use bamboo training frames for best results. Privet stilted hedging or above fence screening is an excellent choice for both small and large gardens, as it can help create a boundary without taking up much lateral space in the garden. One of the most appealing qualities of pleached trees is that they are much more manageable size-wise. Our Pleached Variegated Privet Tree is 2 metres high, and its crown is trained on a frame 1.2 metres wide and 80 centimetres high. As mentioned, its clear stem is 80cm tall. Ligustrum japonicum Variegatum is fully hardy in the United Kingdom. The foliage offers year-round visual interest and the architectural form of the Pleached Variegated Privet Tree introduces structure into the landscape. Use it to line pathways, increase the height (and the ornamental value!) of the privacy your garden wall offers or to create an overhead privacy screen on a rooftop garden or balcony. How To Care for Pleached Variegated Privet TreeUndemanding and robust, this Japanese Privet will do well in most average soils, in full sun to dappled shade. If required, trim in late winter to maintain the form of the pleached tree.

Evergreen Standard Trees - our Cupressus Leylandii trees have been trained to grow as a full standard tree to cover over the fence panel or for above wall privacy screening. Leylandii trees are often referred to as simply Leylandii, these are fast growing evergreen conifers that are mainly used for hedging and evergreen screening.  Cupressus Leylandii trees make excellent roosting places and may also be used as nest sites for birds such as greenfinches, robins, dunnocks and wrens. We also have Leyland Cypress trees available in a golden colour - Cupressus Leyland Goldrider and the ever popular Leylandii Castlewellan GoldCupressus leylandii do need to be correctly maintained with regular trims, trimming should be done twice or three times each year to keep their shape. Leyland Cypress should not be cut back too hard ie beyond the green foliage as they do not re-shoot from old wood. So please bear in mind that they do need consistent trims each year rather than letting them go for a couple of years and cutting them back hard.Leylandii trees are still the fastest and most cost effective way of achieving a neat tall hedge or screen in the garden as they will grow up to 1m per year (2-3ft). We also recommend Thuya Plicata for Hedging and Screening View our Blog post on Using Plants for Screening

Cherry Laurel Boxhead Trees for Sale. Buy Boxhead Laurels. Boxhead Trees

Cherry Laurel Boxhead TreesBoxhead-Shaped Cherry Laurel Trees mark a new addition to our sculpted clear stem tree collection which includes Full Standard Shaped Trees and Pleached Trees.Cherry Laurel Boxhead Trees have a long straight bare trunk with a canopy of evergreen foliage on top carefully trained to form a cubed square around a bamboo frame. Boxhead Cherry Laurel trees are not dissimilar to out Pleached Cherry Laurel trees and / or our Parasol or roof Form trees. However so-called Boxhead Trees have a square canopy whereas pleached trees have a more flat or lateral canopy. Hence the name – Boxhead Trees. Characteristics of the Cherry Laurel Plant:Cherry Laurel in all its forms remains one of our most popular plants. The Botanical Name is Prunus Laurocerasus and it is also known as the Common Laurel.  It is a fast-growing wide spreading evergreen that can be grown as a shrub or as a tree. Left to its own devices, it can attain heights of 6 metres or more.Cherry Laurel has large leathery leaves up to 15 cm long with a lovely dark green gloss. If unpruned, it produces erect racemes of small white flowers followed by berries that emerge red and ripen to black. The berries resemble cherries and the leaves resemble the bay laurel (Laurel Nobilis) hence the name Cherry Laurel. Cherry Laurel is known for its tolerance of shady conditions and most often used for evergreen screening as it makes a superb hedge. How Hardy Is Cherry LaurelCherry Laurel is hardy to -15 degrees, so will thrive in most places throughout the UK even in sever winters.  How To Care For Cherry Laurel Boxhead TreesOnce established, these Cherry Laurel Boxhead trees will be self-sufficient. However, newly planted specimens will need plenty of water until they have put down strong roots and thoroughly settled in. Cherry Laurels are fast growing and the canopy should fill out fairly quickly.Any soil suits this tough and versatile evergreen although it performs below par on shallow from chalky soil conditions. Treat plants to a yearly application of thick organic mulch to boost health. In terms of aspect, Cherry Laurel is happy in sun or shade. Prune the crown once or twice per year to keep in shape, ideally in spring.  How To Use Cherry Laurel Boxhead TreesGiven their very distinctive appearance especially as the canopy matures and thickens, Boxhead Trees can be used to great effect to punctuate the landscape by lining avenues and walkways. They can also be used for above the wall or fence line interest in smaller gardens. Cherry Laurel Boxhead Trees provide lateral architectural interest and height while taking up little lateral space. The same applies to pleached trees except the canopy is more vertical (flat) rather than cubed. More Cherry Laurel:For screening shrubs, see Cherry Laurel for Hedging in either root ball form or in containers./plant/prunusl/prunus-laurocerasus.html/plant/clrb/cherry-laurel-root-ball.htmlIn tree form, we have Cherry Laurel Standard Trees and Cherry Laurel Pleached Trees./plant/prunusltree/prunus-laurocerasus-full-standard-tree.html/plant/prulpl/pleached-cherry-laurel.html

Pinus Nigra Green Rocket. Black Pine Green Rocket Conifer

Pinus Nigra Green Rocket. Black Pine Green Rocket Conifer

Pinus Nigra Green Rocket or Black Pine Green RocketPinus Nigra Green Rocket, a new variety of Black Pine, is best known for its lovely vivid dark green needles and elegant columnar habit. Fairly compact even when mature, this cultivar can be used for hedging, both in small and large gardens. Pinus Nigra or the Black Pine family originates from the mountains of Southern Europe, North West Africa and Turkey. The Pinus Nigra family earned its name because of its dark brown, almost black bark, and Black Pine Green Rocket shares that trait with its close relatives. This particular cultivar has a narrow, upright habit that is ideal for hedges and sophisticated borders. The needles are a lovely shade of dark green, long, arranged in pairs. Foliage is stiff and upright with a conspicuous, large bud borne atop it. The russet coloured buds mature to attractive light brown cones.Robust and undemanding, Black Pine Green Rocket variety will grow in any soil, including sand and clay. For best performance in the garden, this striking conifer should be planted in a well-drained, nutrient-rich soil in full sun. It tolerates both exposed and sheltered locations. However, snow can distort its columnar shape, so in case this cultivar is grown in an exposed spot, tie the branches with a rope to prevent damage from snow heaps.Thriving even in the severest European climates, Pinus Nigra Green Rocket is fully hardy in the United Kingdom. This conifer is resistant to frost, strong and harsh winds, as well as urban pollution, making it a great choice for coastal and city gardens alike. With an average growth rate, Black Pine Green Rocket will reach a height of 2 metres with a width of only 50 centimetres, in a period of 10 years. Extremely easy to maintain in great form, this conifer requires no pruning to stay in shape. Routine removal of dead or damaged branches will ensure that the cultivar remains healthy.Although it is slow gorwing, Pinus Nigra Green Rocket can be used for hedging, where its dense, evergreen foliage provides privacy and serves as a windbreak. Considering it is fairly compact, this conifer can be used in containers, planted in pairs as a front door plant or to add colour and texture to balconies, patios or roof terraces.Make sure to take a look at other Pinus Nigra varieties we have for sale, including Pinus Nigra Green Tower which is a fastigiate variety, fast growing Pinus Nigra Austriaca and the dwarf varieties Pinus Nigra Pierrick Bregeon and Pinus Nigra Nana. It has a classic Christmas tree shape and indeed the Concolor Fir is often used as a Christmas tree in America.Abies Concolor will grow steadily into a pyramid shape reaching 25 metres in height over ten to twenty years but it can be happily pruned at any height you require. Colour and height are the main reasons a gardener will choose a White Fir Tree. The Abies Concolor’s needles are a silvery-blue glaucous shade complemented by the white bark from which it draws its name. These colours are an interesting twist on the standard green fir tree.Branches fall naturally into regular horizontal fan arrangements and six to 12 centimetre sized cones develop in autumn. At first these are yellow or a light purple shade, later ripening into the traditional brown cones that release winged seeds.White Fir Trees are fully hardy throughout the UK. They are able to withstand heat as well as cold temperatures with ease if their roots are kept from waterlogged conditions.Abies Concolor make good specimen trees when they are planted out individually. In the winter months they can be decorated with outdoor lights for a traditional Christmas effect, or you can try growing one in a container to restrict its size and move it indoors for a short while. A living Christmas tree will happily move back outdoors after the festive season if it is watered well and kept away from radiators.Abies Concolor or the Concolor Fir can be used as a hedge or evergreen screening or ornamentally in a garden that needs some winter interest. Large specimens are good for landscaping designs often fulfilling both a practical and ornamental role at the same time.Large free-growing trees can reach a height of 25m but they can be kept at a manageable height by cutting the leader branch. There is no need to prune a Concolor fir other than to restrict its height because they retain a conical shape as they grow, however, keeping your white fir tree shorter will encourage bushiness.White Fir Trees perform best in rich well-drained soils that are slightly acidic but they will grow in most conditions provided the soil is not heavy clay. They appreciate full sun and mulch around their roots in spring time.Fir trees are not just for Christmas because they make interesting architectural shapes in a garden, create wildlife habitats and will boost your outdoor space with year round colour. It’s worth considering a beautiful white fir tree if you need to fill a large space or want to landscape a lengthy piece of lawn.

Pleached Bay Trees Pleached Lauris Nobilis for Sale Online

Pleached Bay Trees Pleached Lauris Nobilis for Sale Online

Laurus Nobilis is the popular bay leaf tree that holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. This pleached tree version creates an ideal evergreen screen above the fence level. Bay trees are native to southern Europe and thrive here in many forms including the pleached, full standard and shrub form for hedging.  Our pleached trees have long clear stems with the crowns trained flat (laterall) on square bamboo support frames. As the tree matures the crown will fill out into a cube. Pleached bay trees are excellent screens as they block the view from a neighbour’s upstairs window, but the bare trunk keeps your garden uncluttered. If you’d preferred a leafed stem, try our pleached bay screens. The leaves of our pleached bay tree are narrowly ovate, leathery and especially tactical. When rubbed they have a distinctive warm and delicious fragrance. Bay is a staple herb typically added to Mediterranean dishes to add a rich, deep flavour. Bay trees hold onto their leaves all year-round, and in spring small greenish-yellow flowers appear in dense clusters which are not particularly noticeable to us but are loved by pollinators. The RHS have also given Laurus Nobilis the Plant for Pollinators tag because it’s so attractive to bees and butterflies. Following the flowers, Lauris Nobilis produce small black glossy berries that attract birds.Height and Spread of Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached bay trees can reach 8-12 metres in height and 8 metres in width but are easily kept smaller with a twice-yearly trim. How Hardy Are Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached bay trees are hardy throughout most of the UK down to temperatures of minus 10 if the roots are well-drained. They enjoy hot weather and have strong pest resistance. How To Use Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached trees are often used as above fence line screening to get the ‘hedge on stilts’ effect. They’ve been used for hundreds of years in formal gardens but have become popular in small modern gardens as their clear stem leaves room in compact spaces and their cubed crown forms a contemporary shape.Plant pleached bay trees to block out the neighbours and create shady spaces. For a hedge-line without gaps plant so the frames are just touching. You can also use pleached bay trees to create tunnels in larger spaces and as an unusual cubed specimen tree. Don’t forget to add a leaf or two to your pasta dishes and stews. How To Care For Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached bay trees will grow in most soils of any pH, including chalk. The soil should be moist but well-drained and preferably sited in a sunny spot as these are sun-loving trees.Dig out a hole one third wider than the root ball and as deep as the soil mark on the tree’s stem. Plant it up with plenty of good quality compost and water regularly until they are established. Once planted, all you will need to do is trim them once or twice a year to maintain the form and tie in any new shoots. Any shoots overgrowing the framework should be clipped off. There is no need to remove the bamboo framework unless you want to. It’s best to wait until the branches are sufficiently mature to maintain the shape.Other forms of Lauris Nobilis include Full Standard Bays, Bay Topiary Lollipop, Twisted Stem Bay Trees and Topiary Bay Cones.
