Leading While Female - Trudy Tuttle Arriaga - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Your take-action guide to gender equity First, just to be clear: Leading While Female is not a book about how to get a leadership job. Nor is it about fixing or transforming women into male managers or mindsets. Instead, Arriaga, Stanley, and Lindsey’s bigger ambition is to help both women and men educational leaders confront and close the gender equity gap —a gap that currently denies highly qualified women and women of color opportunities to better serve our millions of public school students. Designed as both a personal and group discussion guide for taking action, Leading While Female draws on the research of feminism, intersectionality, educational leadership, and Cultural Proficiency to help us all: - - Better understand the impact of faux narratives that foster lack of confidence among girls and women - - Utilize the Tools of Cultural Proficiency to examine barriers to overcome and support functions to locate for your own career planning - - Learn from the stories of women leaders who have confronted and overcome barriers to career development, including women of color who were targets of implicit bias - - Explore and expand the roles and opportunities for our male colleagues to serve as allies, advocates, and mentors. - If we look at the data, we can safely say women are doing the work of classroom teaching while disproportionately, men are making administrative and leadership decisions. Here at last is a resource for the breaking down the barriers and leading the way for future generations of women leaders.

"This one will be dog-eared, highlighted intensely, and readily accessible on the corner of my desk. However, in the spirit of this book′s call for independent thinking, don′t take my word for it. Read and judge for yourself. You won′t be disappointed." —Rick Wormeli, Columnist Middle Ground Magazine, National Middle School Association Learner independence = student success! Health Policy - Iain Crinson - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

This textbook provides a critical assessment of developments in health and healthcare policy within the UK and Europe. Each chapter integrates conceptual themes drawn from the fields of sociology and political science to offer a unique combination of theory, historical detail and wider social commentary. The book is divided into four sections: -Section One establishes a theoretical basis for the analysis of contemporary health policy. -Section Two examines the key constituents of health care ′systems′, which includes a comparative analysis of EU member states. -Section Three focuses on contemporary health care policy and provision in the UK. -Section Four assesses the increasingly limited ability of national governments to reduce threats to the health of their populations. Written in an accessible style, the student-friendly approach highlights key concepts and includes introductions, summaries and examples of further reading. Each chapter also includes case studies and activities which encourage the reader to think about the planning, implementation and assessment of specific healthcare policies. This is a timely and authoritative textbook that covers a key topic of the curriculum while also contributing to topical debates. The book will be essential reading for healthcare and social science students taking modules in health policy, and will also be of interest to policy makers and practitioners in the field of healthcare.

Welfare States under Pressure - - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Welfare States under Pressure - - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Exerpt from the Financial Times Comment & Analysis : Europe takes on reform of the welfare state: A new study indicates that while the UK has transformed its social policies, the rest of Europe has been far from idle - `[A] stimulating new book on European welfare states [Welfare States under Pressure] suggests that the view of Britain as the only great welfare state reformer is overstated. And it adds that the game across Europe is about to change…. This new study argues that, particularly in the late 1990s, there has been more reform in the rest of Europe than is appreciated in the UK. And that Europe as a whole is on the cusp of much greater changes…. Certainly in France and possibly in Germany, the study judges, the traditional power balance between government, employers, unions and welfare providers has shifted such that government may be able to impose much more drastic measures... In the UK, by contrast, the impact of EU institutions may in some areas mean a degree of levelling up - as in healthcare. The most intriguing question is how far reformed welfare states will retain the social cohesion they are designed to produce. So far, even in the UK, they have proved remarkably resilient - adapting to changing needs rather than being "rolled back". This study′s verdict on the issue is "don′t know". But so much change is on the way, it says, that "the past is unlikely to be a good guide to the future"′ - Nicholas Timmins, The Financial Times Welfare States under Pressure provides a timely and comprehensive review of welfare policy-making in Europe. The text compares the different ways in which welfare states have responded to similar pressures over recent years, and considers how welfare is likely to develop in the future. This work: ·provides up to date accounts of welfare development in Finland, Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom. ·explores how similar pressures can lead to different responses due to different policy-making mechanisms in each of the seven different countries ·contains chapters written by leading national experts ·written accessibly, and tightly edited, with each chapter following the same conceptual structure. This volume takes a fresh approach in its analysis of the future of the welfare state in Europe. It suggests that opportunities for radical change in welfare systems are now opening up, and that there will be little continuity between the future and the past/present of the welfare system in Europe. Welfare States under Pressure is invaluable to undergraduate students in social policy, European studies and politics, and will also be of great use to other social science students interested in Europe and its future development.

Leading and Supervising Instruction - John C. Daresh - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Leading and Supervising Instruction - John C. Daresh - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Cultivate instructional leadership centered on student learning! In an era in which standardized test scores and federal legislation are benchmarks for school success, other characteristics of effective schooling and learning can take a back seat. As John Daresh argues in this timely text, however, school principals can achieve these imperatives while simultaneously centralizing student learning. Each chapter opens with a real-world scenario designed to coach principals on how to become instructional leaders who reach school goals while placing student needs in the foreground. Daresh also provides "next steps" to help principals understand what effective supervision and learning look like in action, while recognizing different and equally effective styles of instruction among a diverse teaching staff. By demonstrating how school leaders can enhance their instructional, supervisory, evaluation, and coaching skills, this text reveals how principals can - - - Attain student-centered practice while supporting those staff members responsible for achieving a school′s goal and vision - - Bring out the best in teachers by coaching them to achieve their teaching goals - - Rethink personal definitions of teaching, learning, and supervision - Develop an openness and greater understanding of different instructional styles This text serves as an insightful and practical addition to existing supervision and instructional leadership literature by emphasizing the link between leadership and student-centered learning.

The Trusted Leader - - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

The Trusted Leader - - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Improving government on a macro level is only possible with public managers who herald change on a micro level. While many studies of government reform focus on new policies and programs, these public managers—building relationships built on trust—are the real drivers behind many successful reforms. In this second edition, chapter authors once again draw on their real-world experience to demonstrate the importance of values-based leadership. With new research and lessons from the first two years of the Obama administration, chapters focus on the concrete ways in which leaders build effective relationships and trust, while also improving themselves, their organizations, and those they coach. Surveying agencies both horizontally and vertically, The Trusted Leader also addresses how public managers can collaborate with political appointees and the legislative branch, while still engaging with citizens to create quality customer experiences. Two brand-new chapters focus on: - "Effective Conversations" —the importance of one-on-one conversations to building trust, with a model for having such conversations. - "The Diversity Opportunity" —the need to effectively lead across a diverse workforce and a diverse society to build trust in both realms. With the addition of chapter headnotes, the editors provide necessary context, while the new "Resources for Further Learning" feature guides readers toward additional print and web resources.
