Our Hopes, Our Future - Andreas M. Krafft - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

Our Hopes, Our Future - Andreas M. Krafft - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

How can we overcome crises and shape our common future? Since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, we have all been put to an immense test. This shows how humanity can successfully and constructively deal with such situations and make the best of them. And we learn that the future is not something that happens to us, but that we can actively and constructively shape it. The basic prerequisite for this is an attitude of openness, mutual helpfulness and hope. This non-fiction book vividly reports on the currently prevailing images of the future and the common longings as well as on people''s capacity for hope and action. It reveals the power of desirable images of the future and of a collective hope as the opposite of general helplessness or of blind and naïve optimism. The central statements of this book are based on the experiences of thousands of people in more than ten countries who participated in the scientific study of the Hope Barometer in 2019 and 2020. In a unique way, this combines lived practice with the latest findings of social science futurology, positive psychology and pragmatic philosophy. Target groups: This book is for anyone who wants to look to the future with hope. It offers concrete answers to key questions and shows how crises can be overcome while shaping a better future for individuals and society as a whole. About the author: Dr. Andreas M. Krafft teaches at the University of St. Gallen and at the Free University of Berlin. As co-president of swissfuture, the Swiss Association for Futures Research, and as a board member of the Swiss Society for Positive Psychology, he leads the international research network of the Hope Barometer.

The Music of the Big Bang - Amedeo Balbi - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

Ever since its infancy, humankind has been seeking answers to some very basic and profound questions. Did the Universe begin? If it did, how old is it, and where did it come from? What is its shape? What is it made of? Fascinating myths and brilliant in- itions attempting to solve such enigmas can be found all through the history of human thought. Every culture has its own legends, itsownworldcreationtales,itsphilosophicalspeculations,itsre- gious beliefs. Modern science, however, cannot content itself with fanciful explanations, no matter how suggestive they are. No- days, our theories about the Universe, built upon rational ded- tion, have to survive the hard test of experiment and observation. Cosmology, the science which studies the origin and evo- tion of the Universe, had to overcome enormous dif?culties before it could achieve the same level of dignity as other physical dis- plines. At ?rst, it had no serious physical model and mathematical tools that could be used to address the complexity of the problems it had to face. Then, it suffered from a chronic lack of experim- tal data, which made it almost impossible to test the theoretical speculations. Given this situation, answering rigorously the many questions on the nature of the Universe seemed nothing more than a delusion. Today, however, things have changed. We live in the golden age of cosmology: an exciting moment, when, for the ?rst time, we are able to scienti?cally understand our Universe.

Multivariate Analysis - Thomas Weiber - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

Multivariate Analysis - Thomas Weiber - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

Data can be extremely valuable if we are able to extract information from them. This is why multivariate data analysis is essential for business and science. This book offers an easy-to-understand introduction to the most relevant methods of multivariate data analysis. It is strictly application-oriented, requires little knowledge of mathematics and statistics, demonstrates the procedures with numerical examples and illustrates each method via a case study solved with IBM''s statistical software package SPSS. Extensions of the methods and links to other procedures are discussed and recommendations for application are given. An introductory chapter presents the basic ideas of the multivariate methods covered in the book and refreshes statistical basics which are relevant to all methods. Contents - Introduction to empirical data analysis - Regression analysis - Analysis of variance - Discriminant analysis - Logistic regression - Contingency analysis - Factor analysis - Cluster analysis - Conjoint analysis The original German version is now available in its 16th edition. In 2015, this book was honored by the Federal Association of German Market and Social Researchers as "the textbook that has shaped market research and practice in German-speaking countries". A Chinese version is available in its 3rd edition. On the website www.multivariate-methods.info, the authors further analyze the data with Excel and R and provide additional material to facilitate the understanding of the different multivariate methods. In addition, interactive flashcards are available to the reader for reviewing selected focal points. Download the Springer Nature Flashcards App and use exclusive content to test your knowledge.

Gamified Tabletop Exercises for Effective Disaster Recovery Testing - John Svazic - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG -

Gamified Tabletop Exercises for Effective Disaster Recovery Testing - John Svazic - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG -

Tabletop exercises are a common way to test disaster recovery and business continuity plans, but they can also be some of the most dry and boring meetings any professional can attend. Following a set script with no variation can cause folks to lose interest and question the value of such exercises, even when they are required for compliance frameworks such as SOC2. What is a security professional to do? Simple—introduce variability by adding dice!Gamification isn't a new idea, but applying some principles of gamification to a traditional tabletop exercise can breathe new life into a potentially monotonous activity. This book covers how to build a gamified tabletop exercise from the ground up, and provides example exercises you can build upon for your own needs. Not only will participation improve, but you will have reusable exercises to work with as each walk-through can produce different results, helping to cover multiple outcomes when testing your recovery capabilities. By providing examples and a methodical approach on how to build gamification into a traditional tabletop, the goal is to provide a new perspective on tabletop exercises that should be more engaging for all participants, and thus more beneficial for everyone involved. Avoid the monotony and start practicing with realistic consequences for decisions with dice rolls! What You Will LearnPlan, build, and execute tabletop exercises with participantsUnderstand and explain gamification benefits and how to add it to traditional tabletop exercisesUnderstand why and how to introduce such concepts to a traditional tabletop exerciseGet up to speed on the purpose of tabletop exercises as well as how to improve participation and retention of exercise participantsCompile tips and tricks to help when encountering unexpected issues during tabletop exercises, from unexpected decisions to difficult participantsKnow tools and techniques, such as using mind maps, to help plan and build gamified tabletop exercises Who This Book Is ForGRC or security professionals who would are responsible for executing a tabletop exercise or otherwise tasked with annual testing of the company disaster recovery/business continuity plans.
