Brian Dright: Weatherman of Mystery - Steve Lill - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Little does the world know that Brian Dright, the popular weatherman at Channel 57, is also a secret agent working for the Super Legendary Earth Environment Team. (S.L.E.E.T.)Worrying intell has been intercepted and his commander, the news anchor Anne Finely, sends Brian to investigate snow in the Sahara desert. Turns out it’s the work of Sahara Snow, evil agent of S.M.O.G.Even with the latest gear from the Channel 57 research lab, Brian is soon captured in the desert. He is interrogated by Sahara but makes a bargain with her which results in the whole operation relocating to the North Pole. Once there, Brian slips away from his dim guards and attempts to destroy Sahara’s weather machine. She, however, is somewhat more alert and recaptures Brian before he can throw the self-destruct switch.Secured in an ice cell, Brian learns he is to be made into a trophy for the Head of S.M.O.G. He frees himself by melting the ice with his own red-hot rear after eating bowl after bowl of chilli. Brian tears through the base and faces Sahara. She is too busy melting the polar icecap to bother with Brian so she releases her monstrous mutant pet, Zawinul.Brian and Zawinul have a lovely deadly game of chase in the snow which leaves one of them a charred bundle of blackened fur and the other a very relieved weatherman. With no-one left to assist her, Sahara knows she must finish off the meddling meteorologist herself. In a final showdown amongst the ruins of the disintegrating secret base, Brian and Sahara both know that only one of them will walk (well, swim, probably) free. Who will it be? Coming soon: Brian Dright vs. Evvi SchauerOh. That sort of gives the end of this one away, doesn’t it. Sorry.Note: Between each chapter you’ll find more about the ongoing conflict between S.L.E.E.T. and S.M.O.G. See if YOU can break the Wind Code!

When the Lights Go on Again - Michael Burt - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

When the Lights Go on Again - Michael Burt - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

This book tells the story of life during WW2 in and around Cowfold, largely through the memories of eleven children, with ages ranging from under five to teenager. There are no stories here of bloodshed, death and destruction. Instead this is a story of making do with often very little, of life in the village under the restrictions of blackout and rationing, of childish wide-eyed excitement at watching aerial combat and of rushing to the site of a crashed bomber or fighter in the hope of picking up souvenirs. There are stories of fear at hearing the night time throbbing engine of German bombers or bombs and incendiaries exploding in the area, and later of the dreaded Doodlebug. This was the villagers'' front line- the Home Front - where achieving victory in farming the fields or responding to the Dig for victory campaign or just keeping calm and carrying on was no less important to the ultimate victory than the battles fought on land, in the air, and at sea. The children played their part in this Home Front victory accepting the hardships and contributing to the war effort by helping with fund raising or collecting wild fruit for processing, or helping with the harvests. This book is a tribute to all those children and adults of Cowford who endured six years of hardship, shortages, separation from fathers, husbands, sons and brothers and sisters, and fear and yet who persevered and ultimately prevailed.

It’s 2070 and our post-apocalyptic world is different. Aliens secretly invaded with a lethal biological weapon: a terrifying virus that annihilated almost every living creature in its path. People still believe it was a natural virus, oblivious to aliens and the truth. Humanity’s survival is in the hands of the alliance, a team of humans and aliens who stand against the evil arch-enemy alien leader. Orphaned children are raised in army-style schools. But from this barren wasteland, a few shall rise… Tammy and Mikie are half-human and half-alien siblings, with immense metaphysical powers and a crystal weapon. Their powers are extraordinary alone, but together they are unstoppable. Their father promises to return for them when they reach thirteen – combat age. But at twelve, these two are already too powerful to ignore. Tammy has been raised in an orphan camp, under the thumb of a bitter woman who rules with an iron fist. Now she has been adopted and taken to a new kind of safari park. Here, the scales shift and the animals help her to unlock her gifts with animals and nature. Can Tammy rise above her animal instincts and maintain her humanity? Mikie, a strong telepath, can control people’s minds and is a martial arts expert like his uncle. Forced to live a lonely, home-schooled life to avoid detection, he often gets into trouble and battles with the responsibility of his powers. Can Mikie overcome his inner conflict? Will his compulsion to protect put those closest to him in even more danger? This adventure will take them across the world and maybe into the stars beyond. They must reunite their family and decide where their loyalties lie. The seekers are coming…

Escaping the Ordinary - Lorna Almonds Windmill - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Escaping the Ordinary - Lorna Almonds Windmill - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

“Gentleman Jim is a special forces hero – and he is one of mine too." Sir Ranulph Fiennes, OBE The trailblazing sequel to Gentleman Jim: The Wartime Story of a Founder of the SAS . Following his death-defying Second World War, Gentleman Jim Almonds would never settle to an ordinary job. The SAS was disbanded but as a thirty-year-old Captain, he still hungered for adventure. After training Emperor Hailie Selassie’s Army in Ethiopia, he went as Second-in-Command of a bandit-chasing outfit in the new ‘Wild West’ of Eritrea. He was on active service in so-called peacetime. Atrocities and killings were common, but British justice was swift during a race against time as Almonds brought terrorism under control before the implementation of a United Nations decision to federate Eritrea with Ethiopia. Meanwhile, he embarked on personal adventuring and exploration alone in the wilds, rivers and highlands of Ethiopia, sometimes coming close to death. He was still the great escaper. The SAS reformed in Malaya and Almonds ran straight to the battle again. Back with the Regiment, he parachuted into the jungle to clear communist terrorists out of Malaya. In the early days of the Malayan Emergency, he improvised insertion techniques, close quarter combat training and led the long slow marches out. The success of this British campaign has been largely unsung – until now. In Singapore, Almonds took time out to design and hand-build boats in which he and his family sailed around the Straits of Johor. Another opportunity took him to the Gold Coast as a Major in the West African Frontier Force. He witnessed Independence as the British Union Flag was lowered and Ghana was created. He built a riverboat and navigated the mighty Volta River, before it was dammed, through dense equatorial jungle from Yeji to the sea. He even built, by hand (no power tools), a thirty-foot ocean-going ketch – designed and memorized whilst in an Italian Prisoner of War camp. He sailed out into the mid-Atlantic and home to England. He had no modern steering aids, no health and safety and no radio – yet an uncanny sense of direction. In the dog days of Empire, the story captures the snapshot detail of the many countries he visited during his three-month intercontinental voyage. The account is set in a meticulously researched context, fully sourced and contains a comprehensive index, maps and glossaries.
