Philadelphus Coronarius Mock Orange for sale Online UK

Philadelphus Coronarius Mock Orange for sale Online UK

Philadelphus Coronarius, also known as the common mock orange, is a hardy, low-maintenance shrub with fragrant flowers which will make a great addition to any city or country garden. It has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit to recognize its usefulness to UK gardeners. Native to southern Europe, Philadelphus Coronarius is a common sight in UK gardens. In spring its ovate leaves are bright yellow, changing to a yellow-green as the season goes on. Its creamy white fragrant flowers, 2.5 cm across with yellow centres, appear in early summer. Fully hardy throughout the UK, the common mock orange will grow to its full height of 1.5-2.5 metres and spread of 1-1.5 metres in 5-10 years, and last for decades. For a hedge, plant the shrubs 60 cm apart. Philadelphus Coronarius will benefit from an annual pruning immediately following the flowering period. Cut out all spent flowers to the first strong shoot, and cut out up to 20% of the older stems to the ground to encourage vigorous new growth. Philadelphus Coronarius will grow best in full sun or partial shade in any well-drained soil. It will also be happy in a damp, shaded spot. Once established it will tolerate dry soil conditions. It will do well in a sheltered or exposed position. Tolerant to both urban pollution and salt, it is a good choice for both city and coastal plantings. Common mock orange is often used as a hedging plant because of its dense structure and quick growth rate, giving a reliable, bushy screen in a few years from planting. It is best as an informal hedge, as it looks best when it retains a natural growth pattern. Philadelphus Coronarius is best planted where the fragrance of the flowers can be enjoyed in season, perhaps along the side of a patio, where it will also create an effective privacy screen in spring, summer, and autumn. In a smaller space a specimen shrub will still perfume the air and provide a season-long splash of colour with its bright green leaves. Planted near a window, its scent can be enjoyed inside as well. Common mock orange is also a classic cut flower, especially combined with June roses, bringing its perfume into the house and lasting up to a week. Philadelphus Coronarius has long been grown and appreciated by UK gardeners. Its reliable hardiness, bright foliage, and fragrant flowers make it a perfect choice for gardens everywhere!

Lavenders are hardy perennials and drought tolerant plants that has not only scent but beautiful blue and purple coloured flowers. Lavender also works well as a hedging plant as well as traditionally planted in an herbaceous border - the quintessentially English lavender cottage garden look.Lavendula Angustifolia has been cultivated for thousands of years, and with good reason. It’s a beautiful, fragrant herb and flower perennial plant which will tolerate a wide range of growing conditions. Any garden can benefit from a few Lavender plants! Native to the Mediterranean, Lavender was brought to the UK by the Romans, and by the 1700’s there was a thriving lavender oil industry here. Today it remains a very popular garden plant. The evergreen narrow, bluish-green leaves thickly cover the woody stems of this perennial herb, with fresh green new growth starting in early spring. By early summer the spikes of purple-blue flowers will push up, creating a cloud of fragrant beauty. They make excellent cut flowers, and can also be harvested before fully open and dried, either for dry flower arrangements or to remove the dried buds for use in sachets or pot-pourri. Hardy throughout most of the UK, Lavendula Angustifolia will grow to a mature height of 90 cm, although it can be pruned to a smaller size if desired. Remove spent flower stalks in late summer, and in spring remove dead stems once new growth has started. For planting in a clump or as a hedge, space plants 4-6 per metre.  Lavendula Angustifolia will thrive in dry, sandy soil, and in fact needs well-drained soil to grow at all. They should be planted in a moderately fertile neutral to alkaline pH soil, in full sun facing south or west. They are salt-tolerant and thus a great choice for planting in coastal regions, and will suffer little from deer and rabbits in a country setting. Very tolerant of pollution, they thrive equally well in city gardens. Lavender makes an excellent container plant for a rooftop terrace or courtyard, where even in winter its evergreen foliage will release its trademark fragrance when brushed against. It’s a classic for a country garden’s mixed border, and makes an excellent low hedge in a formal or cottage garden.Lavendula Angustifolia, with its fragrance, lovely flowers, and evergreen foliage, is a wonderful addition to any UK garden!Scented Lavender plants are available to buy online at Paramount Plants, the Mediterranean Plant Specialist Nursery, in Enfield, North London.

Viburnum opulus Roseum is more commonly called the Snowball Tree, and with good reason, as its outstanding characteristic is the large, white, fluffy blooms that cover this large shrub every spring. It has the RHS Award of Garden Merit because of its desirability for UK gardens. The snowball tree was known in the 16th century as Sambucus Rose, already prized by gardeners for its beautiful blooms. Starting in early May, the snowball tree is covered in large lime-green flower clusters 6 cm across. They change to a creamy green, then to pure white, and finally turn a light pink before they fade in June. The blossoms also make excellent cut flowers, which will last up to 2 weeks once cut. As the Viburnum Opulus Roseum cultivar’s flowers are sterile, there are no fruits to follow. The maple-shaped leaves, a fresh green colour through the spring and summer, turn purple in the autumn, adding late-season interest. Hardy to H6, in otherwords throughout all of the UK, Viburnum Opulus Roseum grows to a mature height and spread of 2.5 – 4 metres over a period of 5 – 10 years. Space them 4 metres apart if you are planting more than one. It will tolerate acid, neutral, or alkaline soil. It can thrive in a sheltered or exposed location. Viburnum opulus Roseum is a spectacular garden accent when in bloom in the spring, so make the most of it!  A hedge of flowering snowball trees will be a highlight of the garden for the duration of the blooms. Later in the autumn, the purple leaves will again contribute visual interest, and in between the leafy hedge will be an excellent privacy screen for your garden. You can also plant one Viburnum opulus Roseum as a specimen plant in the middle of your lawn, where it will be the focus of attention. As well, one or more would make an effective foundation planting against a high wall, where they would combine with spring-flowering bulbs and perennials to create a lovely picture. The snowball tree has been a favoured garden shrub for centuries, because of the stunning beauty of its spring blooms. Escallonia is an attractive flowering alternative to your standard evergreen hedge such as Leyland Cypress, adding colour and texture to a wildlife-friendly garden. You can combine different colour Escallonia varieties in one hedge for a real impact. Try planting alternate red flowering varieties such as Escallonia Red Dream or white flowering Ecallonia Iveyi. If you have an area in your garden that needs screening against noise or neighbours then a tall growing Escallonia is a great choice. Escallonia Donard Seedling is particularly useful in coastal areas as it is very tolerant of salt.  Many gardeners choose Escallonia Donard Seedling as a stand-alone feature shrub. It also adds lots of texture and height to a mixed border, but ensure you give it room to grow because they will mature into large shrubs.  How To Care For Escallonia Donard SeedlingEscallonia is a tough plant. It will grow in all soils and any Ph, but it will grow best in sunny well-drained soil with some shelter from consistently cold winds.  Its capacity to withstand salt-laden air is a huge bonus to those with coastal gardens. If you want height and width there is no need to prune your Escallonia, but some shaping and removal of the dead or damaged branches encourages healthy growth. Mulching new plants and watering them in hot spells will encourage a healthy full grown Escallonia that’s self sufficient.

Place mock orange virginal near an open window or near a seating area to make the most of the heady scent. If you have a wild woodland garden you can’t beat a mock orange for a natural look, birds nest in its foliage and pollinators are attracted to the scent, but it can also be pruned to fit into a specific area for a smaller more formal garden. How To Care For Philadelphus VirginalMock Orange Virginal is best planted in full sun or partial shade against a climbing support such as a sturdy trellis or wire frame. It prefers fertile soil that drains well, and in these conditions it will flourish and grow vigorously.  It will cope with less fertile conditions but will grow at a slower pace. Mulch each spring and soak in hot conditions to prolong the flower show. Prune your mock orange virginal in late summer immediately after flowering has ceased. If you cut back one in four stems to ground level and remove any diseased, dead or crossed branches, a mock orange will spring back the following year in good health.

Kolkwitzia Amabilis Beauty Bush for Sale Online UK

Kolkwitzia Amabilis Beauty Bush for Sale Online UK

Kolkwitzia Amabilis Beauty BushKolkwitzia Amabilis, otherwise known as Beauty Bush, is a lovely spring-flowering shrub which can be used as a hedging plant or as part of a mixed border to great success. Native to Central China, this arching deciduous shrub produces clusters of pink flowers with yellow throats in late spring and early summer. The dark-green leaves turn yellow in the autumn, and after they drop the peeling bark on the stems adds some winter interest to the landscape. Its dense, twiggy growth creates an effective screen.  Hardy even in severe winters throughout most of the UK, Kolkwitzia amabilis will grow to a height of 1.5-2.5 metres with a spread of 2.5-4 metres over a period of 5 to 10 years. Beauty Bush responds well to severe prunings. You can cut a third of the stems back to the root after the shrub is finished flowering in early summer, which will ensure a good show of flowers the next year. If it is severely overgrown, you can cut the entire shrub to the ground in late winter. Since Kolkwitzia Amabilis flowers on old wood, you will go without blooms for a year, but the roots will put out strong new shoots which will quickly reach a good height and ensure a good show the following spring. You can plant Kolkwitzia Amabilis in any location, sheltered or exposed, in full sun or partial shade. It will tolerate any well-drained soil type and ph. It is usually pest and disease-free. Plant 2-3 metres apart. Beauty Bush makes an excellent hedging plant, with its dense growth providing privacy in your garden. Its spring flowers will provide a lovely show, while the reliable summer foliage creates a pleasant backdrop for more showy summer plants. Its arching fountain form is best suited to an informal cottage garden. On a larger property beauty Bush can be used in a mass planting on a hillside or in an area where a ground cover is desired. One of its advantages is that it is not attractive to deer. When choosing a spot to plant Kolkwitzia amabilis, bear in mind that it does have a tendency to spread by suckers. It is probably best surrounded by a lawn where the suckers can be kept mowed down, or in a location where its spreading habit will not be a problem. Kolkwitzia amabilis is an excellent choice as a hedging or screening shrub in an informal setting or as a landscaping plant, with its beautiful spring flowers and arching fountain shape adding to the beauty of your garden!

Thuja Plicata Hedging. Western Red Cedar Hedge Buy UK

Thuja Plicata Hedging. Western Red Cedar Hedge Buy UK

Thuja Plicata Martin is also known as the Western Red Cedar.  Thuja is part of the cypress family and is known as a fast-growing evergreen conifer tree. Our Thuja Plicata Hedging plants are supplied as root balled (e.g. without a pot). The roots are protected and wrapped in a biodegradable hessian sack. As a result, we can offer these evergreen hedging conifers at an excellent price for our customers. Height At MaturityThuya Plicata 'Martin' is a particular variety of Thuja which is a mid-size variety that will reach  6-7 meters in height at maturity. This variety retains a slender shape with a diameter up to 2 meters wide. This aspect is particularly useful for hedging purposes where lateral space is usually limited. The evergreen foliage of Thuja Plicata Martin is a dense, mid green in colour, which becomes tinged with an attractive bronze during the winter months.  Privacy ScreeningThuja Plicata Martin is a very popular choice for privacy screening hedging, partly due to its ability to renew itself after trimming or cutting back. Other varieties of fast growing hedging, for example Cupressus Leylandii, can develop dead foliage at their centre (especially when they are not regularly trimmed) which won’t renew itself easily. Thuja Plicata conversely, will regrow happily after being cut back and still remain a lovely verdant green hedge.Hardy, Easy To Grow, Low MaintenanceThuja Plicata or Western Red Cedar (named for its red bark) is native to Pacific North America and grows well in the UK climate - easy to grow and with low maintenance. A trim at the beginning of the Spring to keep in shape is usually enough to last the year. If necessary, give another trim in autumn (don't leave it too late in the year for the last cut). Although a fast growing hedge it doesn't need as much managing as Leylandii. Thuja Plicata Martin has unusually fragrant foliage, when you brush past the trees or when you trim the leaves, there is a lovely scent of pineapple from the bright green foliage.  A very attractive and practical hedge plant 'Martin' is also an impressive specimen tree for small to medium sized gardens.Another excellent variety of Thuja (sometimes spelled Thuya) that is especially useful for hedging, is Thuja Occidentalis Brabant.
