Challenges and Potential Solutions in Gluten Free Product Development - - Bog - Springer Nature Switzerland AG - Plusbog.dk

This work provides researchers with a thorough overview of all aspects related to the development of gluten-free food products. In summarizing and offering critical reviews of published works and focusing on current advances and technologies in gluten free product development, this book covers all of the important subjects related to this increasingly important aspect of the food industry. Important case studies in gluten-free breadmaking and alternative proteins are presented, making this a rich and singular source for food manufacturers and scientists seeking practical knowledge on the challenges and solutions involved in the development of gluten-free foods. Challenges and Potential Solutions in Gluten Free Product Development covers the latest advances and strategies for gluten-free diets including the important nutritional factors involved. Traditional and alternative approaches for the development of gluten-free dough, including starch applications and microbial fermentations, are extensively covered. Alternative proteins including those from vegetables, cereals, legumes and eggs are presented. Novel approaches for gluten-free breadmaking such as aeration strategies, prebiotics, hydrocolloids and nutritional enhancements are also covered in depth. With further chapters dedicated to regulatory aspects, gluten detection methods and the global market, this book presents full and up-to-date coverage of the development and manufacture of gluten-free products.

Sensitivity Analysis in Practice - Francesca Campolongo - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Global Sensitivity Analysis - Francesca Campolongo - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Global Sensitivity Analysis - Francesca Campolongo - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Complex mathematical and computational models are used in all areas of society and technology and yet model based science is increasingly contested or refuted, especially when models are applied to controversial themes in domains such as health, the environment or the economy. More stringent standards of proofs are demanded from model-based numbers, especially when these numbers represent potential financial losses, threats to human health or the state of the environment. Quantitative sensitivity analysis is generally agreed to be one such standard. Mathematical models are good at mapping assumptions into inferences. A modeller makes assumptions about laws pertaining to the system, about its status and a plethora of other, often arcane, system variables and internal model settings. To what extent can we rely on the model-based inference when most of these assumptions are fraught with uncertainties? Global Sensitivity Analysis offers an accessible treatment of such problems via quantitative sensitivity analysis, beginning with the first principles and guiding the reader through the full range of recommended practices with a rich set of solved exercises. The text explains the motivation for sensitivity analysis, reviews the required statistical concepts, and provides a guide to potential applications. The book: - - Provides a self-contained treatment of the subject, allowing readers to learn and practice global sensitivity analysis without further materials. - - - Presents ways to frame the analysis, interpret its results, and avoid potential pitfalls. - - - Features numerous exercises and solved problems to help illustrate the applications. - - - Is authored by leading sensitivity analysis practitioners, combining a range of disciplinary backgrounds. - Postgraduate students and practitioners in a wide range of subjects, including statistics, mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, environmental sciences, biology, toxicology, actuarial sciences, and econometrics will find much of use here. This book will prove equally valuable to engineers working on risk analysis and to financial analysts concerned with pricing and hedging.

Promoting Cultural Sensitivity in Supervision - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Gluten Free for Life - Emily K. Abel - Bog - New York University Press - Plusbog.dk

Gluten Free for Life - Emily K. Abel - Bog - New York University Press - Plusbog.dk

A groundbreaking exploration of celiac disease, a serious autoimmune condition that affects approximately three million Americans, or 1 percent of the population The manifestations of celiac disease–including anemia, gastrointestinal problems, and infertility–are diverse and can have severe consequences if left untreated. The only therapy is lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet. Because many doctors know little about celiac, nearly half of the individuals with the disease remain undiagnosed, and many wait years for the correct diagnosis. In Gluten Free for Life, Emily K. Abel delves into the social, cultural, and historical dimensions of celiac disease, and sheds light on the challenges faced by affected individuals. The book uncovers the profit- driven motivations behind certain food companies, which often produce exorbitantly priced and ultraprocessed gluten-free products that remain out of reach for many people. Abel also emphasizes the parallels between celiac disease and other disabilities, stressing the condition's invisible nature. The absence of observable symptoms poses significant challenges in terms of social interactions, workplace dynamics, and the overall perception of those living with the disease. Abel cautions against viewing a medical cure as the sole solution for celiac disease. Instead, she advocates for a comprehensive approach that addresses the socioeconomic factors impacting adherence to the gluten-free diet. By redirecting attention toward necessary social and political reforms, Gluten Free for Life proposes remedies capable of alleviating the burdens faced by individuals with celiac disease.

A Unified Theory of Polarity Sensitivity - Ahmad Alqassas - Bog - Oxford University Press Inc - Plusbog.dk

A Unified Theory of Polarity Sensitivity - Ahmad Alqassas - Bog - Oxford University Press Inc - Plusbog.dk

Polarity sensitivity is a ubiquitous phenomenon involving expressions such as anybody, nobody, ever, never, somebody and their counterparts in other languages. These expressions belong to different classes such as negative and positive polarity, negative concord, and negative indefinites. In this book, Ahmad Alqassas proposes a unified approach to the study of this phenomenon that relies on examining the interaction between the various types of polarity sensitivity, with a particular focus on Arabic. Alqassas shows that treating this interaction is fundamental for scrutinizing their licensing conditions. Alqassas draws on data from Standard Arabic and the major regional dialects represented by Jordanian, Egyptian, Moroccan, and Qatari. Through the (micro)comparative approach, Alqassas explains the distributional contrasts with a minimal set of universal syntactic operations such as Merge, Move, and Agree. He also considers a fine-grained inventory of negative formal features for polarity items and their licensors. These simple features paint a complex landscape of polarity and lead to important conclusions about syntactic computation. By engaging with the rich but under-studied landscape of Arabic polarity sensitivity, this book provides a new perspective on the syntax-semantic interface and develops a unified syntactic analysis for polarity sensitivity. These contributions have important implications for the study of Arabic and for syntactic theory more generally.
