TMI 25 Years Later - Bonnie A. Osif - Bog - Pennsylvania State University Press - Booktok.dk

Three Mile Island burst into the nation's headlines twenty-five years ago, forever changing our view of nuclear power. The dramatic accident held the world's attention for an unsettling week in March 1979 as engineers struggled to understand what had happened and brought the damaged reactor to a safe condition. Much has been written since then about TMI, but it is not easy to find up-to-date information that is both reliable and accessible to the nonscientific reader. TMI 25 Years Later offers a much-needed "one-stop" resource for a new generation of citizens, students, and policy makers. The legacy of Three Mile Island has been far reaching. The worst nuclear accident in U.S. history marked a turning point in our policies, our perceptions, and our national identity. Those involved in the nuclear industry today study the scenario carefully and review the decontamination and recovery process. Risk management and the ability to convey risks to the general population rationally and understandably are an integral part of implementing new technologies. Political, environmental, and energy decisions have been made with TMI as a factor, and while studies reveal little environmental damage from the accident, long-term studies of health effects continue. TMI 25 Years Later presents a balanced and factual account of the accident, the cleanup effort, and the many facets of its legacy. The authors bring extensive research and writing The authors bring extensive research and writing experience to this book. After the accident and the cleanup, a significant collection of videotapes, photographs, and reports was donated to the University Libraries at Penn State University. Bonnie Osif and Thomas Conkling are engineering librarians at Penn State who maintain a database of these materials, which they have made available to the general public through an award-winning website. Anthony Baratta is a nuclear engineer who worked with the decontamination and recovery project at TMI and is an expert in nuclear accidents. The book features unique photographs of the cleanup and helpful appendixes that enable readers to investigate further various aspects of the story.

Computerized Multistage Testing - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Devising tests that evaluate a nation’s educational standing and implement efficacious educational reforms requires a careful balance among the contributions of technology, psychometrics, test design, and the learning sciences. Unlike other forms of adaptive testing, multistage testing (MST) is highly suitable for testing educational achievement because it can be adapted to educational surveys and student testing. Computerized Multistage Testing: Theory and Applications covers the methodologies, underlying technology, and implementation aspects of this type of test design. The book discusses current scientific perspectives and practical considerations for each step involved in setting up an MST program. It covers the history of MST, test design and implementation for various purposes, item pool development and maintenance, IRT-based and classical test theory-based methodologies for test assembly, routing and scoring, equating, test security, and existing software. It also explores current research, existing operational programs, and innovative future assessments using MST. Intended for psychologists, social scientists, and educational measurement scientists, this volume provides the first unified source of information on the design, psychometrics, implementation, and operational use of MST. It shows how to apply theoretical statistical tools to testing in novel and useful ways. It also explains how to explicitly tie the assumptions made by each model to observable (or at least inferable) data conditions. Winner of the 2016 AERA Award for Significant Contribution to Educational Measurement and Research Methodology The 2016 American Education Research Association (AERA) Div. D award committee for Significant Contributions to Educational Measurement and Research Methodology has recognized unanimously this collaborative work advancing the theory and applications of computerized MST. This annual award recognizes published research judged to represent a significant conceptual advancement in the theory and practice of educational measurement and/or educational research methodology. The 2016 award was made under the heading: Measurement, Psychometrics, and Assessment. This collective work, published in 2014 as an edited volume titled Computerized Multistage Testing: Theory and Applications , was cited by the committee both for the originality of the conceptual foundations presented in support of multistage testing and for arguing persuasively for its potential impact on the practice of educational measurement.

Discover what tools there are for unit testing in iOS, and how to work in a test-driven environment. This book reveals how testing is a crucial capability in any iOS developer''s toolset, and a minimum requirement in iOS interviews. A few years ago, tests on mobile platforms were not very popular. It wasn''t a technical constraint, more a cultural one. But these days it''s a crucial skill set, especially when projects become big and hard to maintain. This book shows you how to set up a testing target in XCode unit tests. You''ll learn how to write unit tests properly and incorporate concepts like spies and mocks and code coverage. You''ll also learn the philosophy behind the architecture of UI tests, and how to mock network and DB layers in testing. Write unbreakable UI tests performance tests, as well. And learn the difference between integration tests and snapshot testing. This book will show you how to maintain code that''s not only bug-free but will also remain high quality over time and maintainable while you make changes and refactors during an app''s life. Testing in all its aspects is the best way of maintaining iOS projects to run fast and reliably long after you''ve released them. Many iOS developers working today lack an understanding of the advantages of testing, and might be unfamiliar with tools that make the job easier, such as XCTest framework. With Pro iOS Testing you''ll see how to develop and test apps that work and stay working for a long time. What You''ll Learn - Set up a stable testing system - Extend an app''s lifetime with testing before release - Incorporate testing into your everyday development routine - Write unbreakable UI tests performance tests - Understand the difference between integration tests and snapshot testing Who This Book Is For Professional iOS developers with extensive experience in the basics of building apps.
