Apollo Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector with Flashing LED and Magnetic Test Switch 55000-315APO

Apollo Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector with Flashing LED and Magnetic Test Switch 55000-315APO

Apollo Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector with Flashing LED and Magnetic Test Switch 55000-315APOThe Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector incorporates a pulsing LED located within the housing of the detector. The external detector moulding is identical to that of the ionisation detector and has an indicator LED which is clear in quiescent state but produces a red light in alarm.OperationThe Series 65 Optical Smoke Detector has a moulded self-extinguishing white polycarbonate case with wind resistant smoke inlets. Nickel-plated stainless-steel wiper contacts connect the detector to the base. Inside the case a printed circuit board has the optical system mounted on one side and the signal processing electronics on the other. The sensing chamber is a black moulding configured as a labyrinth which prevents penetration of ambient light. The labyrinth has a fine gauze insect-resistant cover. The chamber houses an infrared light emitting diode LED and a photo-diode which has an integral visible-light filter as extra protection against ambient light. Every three seconds the LED emits a burst of collimated light modulated at 4kHz. In clear air light from the LED does not fall directly on the diode because the LED is positioned at an obtuse angle to the diode. When smoke enters the chamber a fraction of the collimated light is scattered onto the photo-diode. If the resulting signal from the photo-diode is above a pre-set threshold the LED emits two more bursts of light this time at two-second intervals. If light is scattered onto the photo-diode by both these pulses due to the presence of smoke the detector signals an alarm state by switching the alarm latch on increasing the current drawn from the supply from about 40A to a maximum of 75mA. This fall in the impedance of the detector is recognised by the control panel as an alarm signal. The alarm current also illuminates the detector integral LED. A remote indicator connected between the L1 IN terminal and the R terminal will have a voltage equal to the supply voltage less 1 volt across it and so will illuminate. To ensure correct operation of the detector the control panel must be arranged to supply a maximum of 33 Volts dc and a minimum of 9 Volts dc in normal operation. The supply may fall to 6 Volts dc in alarm conditions if a supply current of at least 10mA is available at this voltage. To ensure effective illumination of the integral LED and any remote indicator the supply to the detector should exceed 12 Volts. To restore the detector to quiescent condition it is necessary to expel any smoke and interrupt the electrical supply to the detector for a minimum of one second.Key FeaturesResponds well to slow-burning smouldering firesWell-suited to bedrooms and escape routesUnaffected by wind or atmospheric pressureFlashing LED and magnet operated test switch option

Apollo Discovery Heat Detector 58000-400APO

Apollo Discovery Heat Detector 58000-400APOThe Discovery Heat Detector uses a single thermistor to sense the air temperature around the detector.Discovery heat detectors have a common profile with ionisation and optical smoke detectors but have a low air flow resistance case made of self-extinguishing white polycarbonate. For the European standard version of the detector the five modes correspond to five classes as defined in EN 54-5. The classes in this standard correspond with different response behaviour each of which is designed to be suitable for a range of application temperatures. All modes incorporate fixed temperature response which is defined in the standard by the static response temperature.Application EnvironmentsCarpark Loading BaysDusty EnvironmentsHospitalsHotelsMedium to Large BuildingsOfficesUniversity CampusesWarehousesBrand InformationDiscovery is a range of high-specification analogue addressable fire detectors and alarm devices. Discovery detectors offer effective false alarm management by a combination of EN 54 approved operating modes and sophisticated algorithms.Drift compensation further reduces the likelihood of false alarms caused by a build-up of dust in the sensing chamber. In addition to the familiar smoke and heat detectors the Discovery range features two multisensor detectors. One is an opticalheat multisensor which can be used to protect against many types of fire risk. The other is a carbon monoxideheat multisensor which protects against both smouldering fires and those generating heat.Electrical ConsiderationsThe Discovery Heat Detector uses a single thermistor to sense the air temperature at the detector position. The thermistor is connected in a resistor network which produces a voltage output dependent on temperature. The design of the resistor network together with the processing algorithm in the microcontroller gives an approximately linear characteristic from 10C to 80C. This linearised signal is further processed depending on the response mode selected and converted to an analogue output.Operating PrinciplesDiscovery detectors are designed to be operated with purpose-designed control and indicating equipment that makes full use of their features. Discovery can however be connected to any fire control panel which can operate existing ranges of Apollo analogue addressable detectors with the previously noted rule that the control and indicating equipment must not have a drift algorithm operating on Discovery devices. Contact the fire control panel manufacturer for guidance.CommunicationDiscovery uses a digital communications protocol which has been developed from the XP95 protocol but differs in that it allows communication in three different modes Normal Read and Write to allow a more extensive exchange of information and commands than previous analogue addressable ranges. In addition discovery can store data in non-volatile memory.- The Normal mode is identical to the XP95 protocol with the exception that the five additional analogue value bits in the XP95 protocol extension have been re-defined so that the fire control panel is able to distinguish between Discovery and XP95 devices.- The Read mode is used to check information stored in the non-volatile memory of each detector. It is accessed by using a simple extension to the Normal mode communication method from the fire control panel to the detector.- In Write mode the fire control panel is able to write information to the detector by extending the communication method in the same way as in Read mode. During Read or Write modes a detector can signal an alarm by means of the alarm flag and alarm address bits.Discovery detectors are compatible with XP95 and Soteria. It should be noted however that Discovery features will not be available when Discovery is used with XP95 fire control panels. Fire control panels with drift compensation algorithms should disable the algorithms when communicating with Discovery. For fire control panels running CoreProtocol please refer to the fire control panel manufacturers operating instructions.Maintenance ServiceDetectors should be maintained according to BS 5839-1 or other locally applicable code. Test Equipment can be ordered from us which can test smoke and heat detectors.Detectors should not be cleaned in the field except for careful removal of exterior dirt with a damp cloth.EMC Directive 2004108ECThe Discovery Heat Detector complies with the essential requirements of the EMC Directive 201430EU provided that it is used as described in this datasheet.A copy of the Declaration of Conformity is available upon request.Key Features Ideal in environments that are dirty or smoky under normal conditionsWell suited for warehouses loading bays and car parksUnaffected by wind or atmospheric pressureFive response modesRemote test feature

Apollo Orbis Multi-sensor Detector with Flashing LED ORB-OH-13003-APO

Apollo Orbis Multi-sensor Detector with Flashing LED ORB-OH-13003-APOOrbis multi-sensor smoke detectors are recognized as good detectors for general use but are additionally more sensitive to fast burning flaming firesincluding liquid firesthan optical detectors. They can be readily used instead of optical smoke detectors but should be used as the detector of choice for areas where the fire risk is likely to include heat at an early stage in the development of the fire.As with Orbis optical smoke detectors the increased reliability of detection is combined with high immunity to false alarms.OperationThe multi-sensor smoke detector has two sensors one for smoke one for heat and the alarm decision is derived from either sensor or a combination of both. The multi-sensor is a development of the Orbis optical detector described in the previous chapter and goes further in its capabilities of fire detection. The optical sensor is identical to the one in the Orbis optical detector. Its sensitivity is however influenced by a heat sensing element which makes the detector more responsive to fast-burning flaming fires.Key FeaturesResponds well to fast-burning flaming firesTransient rejection algorithms reduce false alarmsAutomatic drift compensation with DirtAlert a yellow flashing LED to easily identify dirty detectorsRed flashing LED at StartUp confirms that the device is operating. Apollo Discovery Optical Smoke Detector 58000-600APO

Apollo Discovery Optical Smoke Detector 58000-600APO

Apollo Discovery Optical Smoke Detector 58000-600APOThe Discovery Optical Smoke Detector operates using the light scatter principle and is ideal for applications where slow-burning or smouldering fires pose a potential risk. Discovery is a range of high-specification analogue addressable fire detectors and alarm devices. Discovery detectors offer effective false alarm management by a combination of EN 54 approved operating modes and sophisticated algorithms. Drift compensation further reduces the likelihood of false alarms caused by a build-up of dust in the sensing chamber.OperationThe Discovery Optical Detector has a white moulded polycarbonate case with wind-resistant smoke inlets. The two indicator LEDs are red in alarm. Within the case is a printed circuit board which on one side has the light-proof chamber with integral gauze surrounding the optical measuring system and on the other the signal processing and communications electronics. An infra-red light emitting diode within its collimator is arranged at an obtuse angle to the photo-diode. The photo-diode has an integral daylight-blocking filter. The IR LED emits a burst of collimated light every second. In clear air the photo-diode receives no light directly from the IR LED because of the angular arrangement and the chamber baffles. When smoke enters the chamber it scatters light from the emitter IR LED onto the photo-diode in an amount related to the smoke characteristics and density. The photo-diode signal is processed to provide an analogue value for transmission when the detector is interrogated.Key FeaturesResponds well to slowburning smouldering firesWell-suited to bedrooms and escape routesUnaffected by wind or atmospheric pressureFive response modesRemote test feature
