Comprehensive Aphasia Test

Comprehensive Aphasia Test

The Comprehensive Aphasia Test (CAT) is a test for use with people who have acquired aphasia that can be completed over one or two assessment sessions. The test includes a user manual a cognitive screen and language battery and a scoring booklet which are all unchanged since the previous edition and - new to this release - a concise Aphasia Impact Questionnaire which replaces the Disability Questionnaire. The cognitive section assesses people's abilities across a range of task that can affect rehabilitation. Forming the main body of the test the language battery provides a profile of performance across all modalities of language production and comprehension. The Aphasia Impact Questionnaire is a pictorial Patient Reported Outcome Measure which produces both qualitative and quantitative information. It was co-produced with people with aphasia. It supports the person with aphasia to give a subjective rating of how language difficulties identified in the Language Battery affect their daily life enabling first steps towards goal setting. By capturing this information the CAT helps the therapist track changes over the course of recovery and provides a guide to likely outcomes on the basis of an early assessment. The first two sections of the CAT are supported by normative data on people both with and without aphasia and extensive data on reliability and clinical validity. The CAT allows users to: Identify underlying impairments Find where to focus assessments using PALPA and other batteries Ascertain the practical psychological and social impact of aphasia from the perceptive of the person with aphasia Create a profile of strengths and weaknesses to guide therapy. Structured around fully up-to-date models of language assessment from cognitive neuropsychology to patient reported outcome measures test is an indispensable resource for speech and language therapists and researchers. It provides as much information about people's language ability as possible in a relatively brief test designed to be completed in 90-120 minutes. Additional scoring booklets can be ordered in packs of 10 at https://www. routledge. com/Comprehensive-Aphasia-Test-Scoring-Book-pack-of-10/Swinburn-Porter-Howard/p/book/ 9781032128177

The Routledge Handbook of Wine and Culture

The Routledge Handbook of Wine and Culture

This title was a prize winner at the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) Awards 2023. The link between culture and wine reaches back into the earliest history of humanity. The Routledge Handbook of Wine and Culture brings together a newly comprehensive interdisciplinary overview of contemporary research and thinking on how wine fits into the cultural frameworks of production intermediation and consumption. Bringing together many leading researchers engaged in studying these phenomena it explores the different ways in which wine is constructed as a social artefact and how its representation and use acquire symbolic meaning. Wine can be analysed in different ways by varying disciplines involved in exploring wine and culture (anthropology economics and business geography history and sociology and as text). The Handbook uses these as lenses to consider how producers intermediaries and consumers use and create cultural significance. Specifically the work addresses the following: how wine relates to place belief systems and accompanying rituals; how it may be used as a marker of the identity and mechanisms of civilising processes (often in conjunction with food and the arts); how its framing intersects with science and nature; the ideologies and power relations which arise around all these activities; and the relation of this to wine markets and public institutions. This is essential reading for researchers and students in education for the wine industry and in the humanities and social sciences engaged in understanding patterns of human ingenuity and interaction such as sociology anthropology economics health geography business tourism cultural studies food studies and history.

The Routledge Handbook of Urban Ecology

The Routledge Handbook of Urban Ecology

This second edition covers recent developments around the world with contributors from 33 different countries. It widens the handbook’s scope by including ecological design; consideration of cultural dimensions of the use and conservation of urban nature; the roles of government and civil society; and the continuing issues of equity and fairness in access to urban greenspaces. New features include an emphasis on the biophilic design of homes and workplaces demonstrating the value of nature in order to counter the still prevalent attitude among many developers that nature is a constraint rather than a value. The volume explores great practical achievements that have occurred since the first edition with many governments increasingly recognizing and legislating on urban nature and green infrastructure matters since cities play a major role in adapting to change particularly to climate crisis. New topics such as the ecological role of light at night and human microbiota in the urban ecosystem are introduced. Additional attention is given to food production in cities particularly the multiple roles of urban agriculture and household gardens in different contexts from wealthy communities to the poorest informal settlements in deprived communities. The emphasis is on demonstrating what can be achieved and what is already being done. The book aims to help scholars and graduate students by providing an invaluable and up-to-date guide to current urban ecological thinking across the range of disciplines such as geography ecology environmental science/studies planning and urban studies that converge in the study of towns and cities and urban design and living. It will also assist practitioners and civil society members in discovering the ways diff erent specialists and thinkers approach urban nature. | The Routledge Handbook of Urban Ecology
