Citadelle No Mistake Old Tom Gin 50cl

Citadelle No Mistake Old Tom Gin 50cl

Citadelle No Mistake Old Tom Gin Since 1996, Château de Bonbonnet in the southwest of France has been the home of Citadelle Gin. Citadelle is proud of its geographic location, and from this they take inspiration. In 1836, in one of the many bars he frquented, Charles Dickens marveled at "the ingenuity employed to give sobriquets to gin, with one term more seductive than the next, to describe it in multiple ways." One of these nicknames was "No Mistake" and Citadelle felt it appropriate for their Old Tom gin. Old Tom gin's were popular in England during the 19th century, and Citadelle wanted to keep this in mind. These were sweetened gins, and during travels in the Carribean, a brown sugar (similar to Demerera) was discovered. Moist and heavy, it was the missing ingredient Citadelle had been searching for.  The Old Tom gin consists of blending Citadelle Réserve (used due to its floral notes), with aged sugar. This is then placed back in casks and rested (again) for several months.  The result is a gin with a beautiful gold colour. The aroma is fresh, and powerful - juniper, the zest of orange and cardamom come forward early, before herbal and floral aromas come through (jasmine & honeysuckle), and a sweet coffee like fragrance. In the mouth this is deliciously full, and elegant. It has a sweet profile as can be expected with the added sugar, but this blends with other flavours and is perfectly balanced. Lemon zest, anise and almond join with warm spice notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and cubeb pepper.  The finish is long. Floral, with more woody spiced notes, and hints of licorice. Read more about Citadelle Perfect Serve Whilst this works in a number of cocktails calling for Old Tom Gins (such as the Tom Collins or the Martinez), we like this best sipped. The sweet notes almost remind of a rich rum - and we find is delicious enjoyed simply and on its own (maybe with a single large ice cube).

Citadelle Jardin d'été Gin 70cl

Citadelle Juniper Décadence Gin 70cl

Citadelle Juniper Décadence Gin 70cl

Citadelle Juniper Décadence Gin What better way to celebrate 25 years of Citadelle Gin than by launching an exquisite limited edition? Citadelle have created their Juniper Décadence Gin which is a homage to the juniper tree (the star of the show in all gins). The juniper trees grow naturally in the Charentes region of France, indeed they are even cultivated in front of the Château de Bonbonnet (the home of Citadelle gin). They took inspiration from the historical practise of ageing and storing gin in wood (similar to wine and other spirits). Whilst this has generally fallen out of practise, it is now regaining in popularity due to the additional flavours imparted in the gin. For their Décadence gin, they take their signature recipe (used to create the original Citadelle gin), which has its 19 botanicals. They then rest the gin in wooden barrels, which have been made of juniper wood. This process takes a month. These barrels have been custom designed, have a conical shape and hold 100L of the gin. The process of resting ensures a smokiness from the wood amplifies the herbal notes in the original recipe. The result is a gin with a silkiness, which perfectly coats the mouth. There is an intruiging bittersweetness and the smokiness which merge with the juniper notes. Pepper, coconut, ginger and nutmeg also come through and are enhanced with cinnamon, anise and licorice. However the floral notes are definitely still present, with camphor and angelica present too which unfold as the drink is enjoyed. Read more about Citadelle Perfect Serve A deliciously special gin, which can be slowly enjoyed as it is. However we found adding a neutral tonic enlivened the drink. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 100ml of Three Cents Tonic, and stir gently. Garnish with a slice of lemon.

Citadelle Gin Gift Pack 70cl

Citadelle Gin Gift Pack 70cl

Citadelle Gin Gift Pack This pack contains: 1 x Citadelle Gin 70cl 1 x Citadelle Glass Citadelle Gin Since 1996, Château de Bonbonnet in the southwest of France has been the home of Citadelle Gin. Citadelle is proud of its geographic location, and from this they take inspiration. Thie aim was to distill the essence of their region into one perfectly crisp spirit. It takes time to make Citadelle gin. There are 19 botanicals that make up Citadelle. These are infused, depending on their flavour profile, for between one and four days. This is crucial so that Citadelle can acquire its full flavour profile. After this, it is then distilled in small copper stills over open flames in order to develop its suppleness and full rounded character in the mouth. Citadelle Gin exudes subtle aromas of fresh flowers which are highlighted by more assertive citric scents. In the glass, it emanates more intense, herbaceous notes of juniper and anise; which is then followed by the spicy cinnamon side which softens the nose. This brings a very gourmand dimension to the gin. On the palate, the juniper is forward, but cedes to a long, voluptuous, spicy fragrance. There are three distinct traits within Citadelle which offers its complete aromatic richness. Juniper its signature. It doesn't hide from the fact its a gin, and juniper forms the key base of Citadelle. This is joined with citrus - this is a complementary note that underlines the juniper. Then there follows the exotic - this offers an additional level of enjoyment with touches of pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon, which gives Citadelle its delicate spiciness. Overall its a beautifully balanced gin. Elegant, soft and and long in the mouth, definitely a taste of summer France in a bottle. Read more about Citadelle Perfect Serve To enhance the flavours in this gin, we recommend serving with East Imperial Tonic Water. Citadelle Rouge Gin 70cl

Citadelle Rouge Gin 70cl

Citadelle Rouge Gin Since 1996, Château de Bonbonnet in the southwest of France has been the home of Citadelle Gin. Citadelle is proud of its geographic location, and from this they take inspiration. Thie aim was to distill the essence of their region into one perfectly crisp spirit. It takes time to make Citadelle gin. There are 19 botanicals that make up the original Citadelle. After this, it is then distilled in small copper stills over open flames in order to develop its suppleness and full rounded character in the mouth. Don't be confused by the name... this isn't a red, or a pink gin - there are no artificial colours or flavours in this bottle! The Rouge (red) refers to the flavours you will find. This is infused with fresh berries (cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant) as well as the summer favourite rhubarb. These ensure a flavour fuelled aroma and drink. Building on the dry gin and original botanicals, this gives an intense burst of tart berries (it's certainly not overly-sweet), and the tang found in rhubarb. It's definitely fruit-forward on the flavours, with the red fruits enticing the palate perfectly - whilst remaining crystal clear in your glass! More from Citadelle Perfect Serve We found this to work exceptionally well in the mix (adding berry flavours to your gin based cocktails), whilst also being exceptional as berry fuelled gin & tonic. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic (we highly recommend a neutral tonic such as Three Cents Tonic Water, or for less sugar, their Dry Tonic). Stir gently and garnish with some fresh berries and perhaps a thin slice of fresh rhubarb.

Citadelle Vive le Cornichon Gin 70cl

Citadelle Vive le Cornichon Gin 70cl

Citadelle Vive le Cornichon Gin Since 1996, Château de Bonbonnet in the southwest of France has been the home of Citadelle Gin. Citadelle is proud of its geographic location, and from this they take inspiration. Thie aim was to distill the essence of their region into one perfectly crisp spirit. Each season, Citadelle's master blender Alexandre Gabriel and his team allow their curiosity to run free. In this way Citadelle creates its limited edition gins. Unexpected flavours and botanicals are blended, until something unique, special, and most importantly, delicious is created. With their Vive le Cornichon (their sixth limited edition) the star is the small, cornichon pickle (as the name would suggest!). Sourced from Maison Marc (which is renowned by foodies) in Burgundy, these cornichons are grown without insecticides, herbicides or preservatives. When finally ready for harvest, each is then picked by hand. Whilst this may be seen as unusual, it gives a surprising and enticing flavour profile to the gin. On the palate there are intense notes of juniper and aniseed, which is followed by a touch of vinegar and salinity from the pickles. The finish is long, lingering on the mouth and is reminiscent of mustard and pearl onions. Read more about Citadelle Perfect Serve Whilst this works really well in a classic Gin & Tonic (definitely use a neutral tonic here!), we think this was made for a Martini! In a mixing glass filled with ice, add 60ml of the Vive le Cornichon gin, 10ml of Dry Vermouth, and 10ml of pickle juice (from a jar of pickles). Stir for 5 to 10 seconds, and serve in a martini glass with a pickle for garnish.
