Bloedlemoen Handcrafted Gin Pronounced ‘Blue’d Le Moon’, this is a South African gin which is made from the luscious Tarocco Blood Orange. It proudly calls out that it is the "first Blood Orange Gin" in the World. The story of this gin starts in 2015, when three food and drink industry specialists got together. They wanted to create a refreshing and delicious gin, one which was layered with the warmth of selected spices. Ensuring a good relationship with their suppliers is important, and they source their fruit from their selected growing partners based in the Western Cape of South Africa.  To create their contemporary gin they use a carefully selected blend of 10 different botanicals. Using a combination of maceration and vapour infusion (depending on the hardiness of the boanical) they extract maximum flavour and aroma.  The botanicals they chose are Juniper, Blood Orange, Orange Peel, Grains of Paradise, Coriander, Cassia bark, Nutmeg, Liquorice Root, Angelica Root and Cardamom. These blend to create the refreshing, yet warming gin they were originally looking for, On the nose this gin is full of citrus notes and a light piney juniper aroma, a hint of spice also greets you. On the palate, the blood orange is also present, along with a sweet spiciness of nutmeg which combines with Cassia and Grains of paradise perfectly adding to the mouthfeel. The finish leaves a refreshing and tingling touch of blood orange lingering in the mouth. Hayman's Old Tom Gin In 1863 when James Burrough, opened a small distillery in Chelsea, London. He experimented with a number of gin recipes, giving them names such as Burrough’s, Olde Chelsey, Beefeater and Black Cat. It was James who pioneered the London Dry gin which is known and loved today (at that time, London's gin of choice was Old Tom). It was this which led to the development of the Beefeater Gin brand.... but it also spurred the Hayman's gin brand. The current Master Distiller of Hayman's (Christopher Hayman) is the great grandson of James Burrough. Whilst not common in modern times, with their Old Tom gin Hayman's pay homage to the prevalent gin which was enjoyed when their family started creating gin. The generous quantities of botanicals which Hayman's use in their family recipe ensure a bold citrus and juniper pine character. Smooth and delicate it has a subtle but defining sweetness (as is common in Old Tom gins). The distillery was established in 1793, by Simon Rybende in the world's Jenever capital, Schiedam. A former sailor, he turned to business, and distilling, and was even appointed the Mayor of Schiedam. A New Generation of Rynbende The Rynbende brand has had highs and lows during it's history and was re-ignited again in 2022, when the original Rynbende recipes were passed down to another generation through inheritance . Now called Rynbende Spirits, the focus is on producing high end spirits, with a selective distribution network (of which Gin Fling is happy to be one).
