Masthouse Column Malt Whisky Created by the Copper Rivet Distillery, in Kent - the location of the distillery has a rich tradition of innovation and craftsmanship. This area once produced world-class ships. The story starts in 2005 when the Russell family began planning their distillery. It took much planning, but in 2015 they found the future home of Copper Rivet Distillery and the Victorian Pump House No. 5 in Chatham Maritime was purchased. In 2016 they began distilling, but it wasn't until 2017 that they officially opened. On Friday 1st December, HRH The Princess Royal (the British Princess Anne) officially opened Copper Rivet Distillery in Chatham's Historic Docky. From that day they began selling exceptional whisky, gin and vodka. For all of their spirits, including their whiskys only the best early harvest wheat, barley and rye are selected to be used. These are all grown within 20 miles of their home in Chatham, working with known farmers. Their Column Malt Whisky is one of Britain’s first single malt whisky's to be distilled in a column still. For this they took inspiration from the Japanese and American distilleries. They use 100% Belgravia Barley which is grown at 40 acre field. Their mash has a long fermentation before its initial pot distillation. After this, there is a second distillation in the 10 meter tall column still. This unique column still creates a deliciously smooth, easy drinking whisky. The final stage is ageing in first full American Oak Bourbon Barrels. The resulting whisky has an intruiging balance of flavours. It has an aroma full of Vanilla mousse with candied zest, toffee apple and light oak shavings. Whilst on the palate there is a lingering sweet cream with dried plantain, fresh cut pear and a nutty, peppery finish. This time they have dialled up the citrus with Orange and created their latest taste sensation - Zesty Orange. Hand-crafted by the distilling team at Sipsmith they have taken fresh and dried orange peels, their award winning london dry gin and combined them with the zest from bergamot (another citrus fruit).  On the nose there is a delightfully fresh aroma, which is full of light floral citrus notes, as well as a touch of warming spice. On the palate there is the perfect blend of juniper, orange in the form of a sweet marmalade, and a touch of cinnamon which brings everything together. These are distilled from fine French grapes; a process inspired by over a century of wine-making expertise and craftsmanship.  Only the finest French grapes are selected and made into a wine. This wine is then distilled four times, and then, at the fifth distillation, Cîroc Vodka is created in a traditional, tailor-made copper pot still at the historic Distillerie de Maison Villevert - Chevanceaux in the South of France. This distillery has been in the family for over 500 years. With their strictly limited edition Summer Watermelon, Cîroc have created a truly refreshing flavoured vodka which is perfect for the summer. Their vodka is infused with a distinctive blend of ripe summer watermelons, and carefully selected flavours to give a vodka which is lusciously different and elegantly smooth! It has a truly distinct juicy and ripened watermelon aroma, which hints at what is in the drink. When tasting, you're not disappointed. The flavours of sweet, juicy watermelon are there, combined with the smooth Cîroc premium vodka. The flavours continue right through to the finish. Thunder Really Pink Gin Thunder is well known for it's Toffee Vodka (arguably the "Best Toffee Vodka in the World"), now they have ventured 'to the other side' and have created what they believe is the "World’s Pinkest Gin". Created at Thames Distillers in London, their Master Distiller Charles Maxwell ensured this is a gin which would not just be known for its vibrant pink colour! Made from all natural ingredients, the delicious fruity taste comes from specially selected botanicals including juniper, coriander, cassia, liquorice, orange, angelica, elderberries, raspberries and redcurrants. Whilst pink and definitely fruity - this is still a gin at it's heart, and has a proud juniper note. This also lends a pine scent to the gin, along with a hint of spicy coriander.  However there is also no getting away from the fact this is definitely a pink gin! It's wonderfully fruity, which is thanks to the elderberries, raspberries and redcurrants (which also help with the colour). This is also vegan friendly, and uses sustainably sourced ingredients - which makes this, according to Thunder, a perfect 'guilt-free' boozy pleasure (and we don't disagree!) Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey This premium Bourbon is produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. This is the oldest continuously operating distillery in America.... so they know a thing or two about producing Bourbon Whiskey! The American bald eagle symbolised on the front gives an indication as to the contents of the bottle. This bird of prey is the symbol of American freedon and independence. It symbolises the rarity of the Bourbon, released only in limited quantities, and known as one of America's best bourbons. In fact it is the only Bourbon to receive a Double Gold medal five times at the renowned World Spirits Competition in San Francisco! There are a number of requirements for a Bourbon to be labelled as a 'straight bourbon'. They need to have been aged for a minimum of two years (and if under four, the age must be shown), and not have any added colouring, flavouring or other spirits. Eagle Rare has been aged for at least ten years, with each barrel being carefully selected   This attention to detail, and long ageing process ensures that this is definitely a rare, and delicious Bourbon.  It has a complex nose, with delicious aromas of toffee - joined by hints of orange peel, herbs, honey, and warming leather and oak. On the palate the taste is dry and bold. A delicate touch of red fruits and honey rounds out the candied almonds and distinctive rich cocoa. It finishes with lingering flavours of vanilla and more spice from the oak. Perfect Serve Whilst this is easy to enjoy as you would most bourbons, we liked this with just a dash of water. This seemed to open up the flavours - and brought the drink alive.

Hayman's Royal Dock Gin In 1863 when James Burrough, opened a small distillery in Chelsea, London. He experimented with a number of gin recipes, giving them names such as Burrough’s, Olde Chelsey, Beefeater and Black Cat. It was James who poineered the London Dry gin which is known and loved today (at that time, London's gin of choice was Old Tom). It was this which led to the development of the Beefeater Gin brand.... but it also spurred the Hayman's gin brand. The current Master Distiller of Hayman's (Christopher Hayman) is the great grandson of James Burrough. Their Royal Dock Gin (their Navy Strength Gin), was first supplied to the English Admiralty in 1863. As this is a stronger gin, bottled at 57% it's bracing, yet smooth and bright. We love this in a Gimlet for instance. For a classic gin & tonic, try with Fentimans Indian Tonic. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150ml of tonic, and stir gently. Garnish with a slice of lemon.

The result is a whisky with a dark copper, and gold hued whisky. 6 O'Clock Spiced Orange & Cranberry Gin 6 O’Clock Gin is a range of strikingly-smooth artisan gins, handcrafted in small batches, using traditional skills and only the best natural ingredients. It is a craft gin brand owned and operated by the family-run, artisan spirit company, Bramley & Gage, based in Thornbury on the outskirts of Bristol in the UK.  The 6 O’clock name was inspired by the long-held family tradition of indulging in the first G&T of the evening at 6 O’Clock; a very British custom with colonial roots, still enjoyed at the distillery and shared by gin-lovers all over the world. Whilst their Spiced Orange & Cranberry gin is perfect at Christmas, you can also embrace the festive spirit all year by enjoying it! It's created by using fresh orange peels, and tart cranberries. These are then allowed to steep in their classic botanical recipe. Joining the classic juniper nose are zesty citrus and warming spice aromas. On the palate the tart cranberries come through early, quickly joined by a sweetness from orange. These give a perfectly balanced fruitiness, which is followed by the festive spices of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. These build a complexity, with the juniper as a backbone to the flavours.  It leaves a pleasantly lingering warm finish, with a citrusy zestiness. Citadelle No Mistake Old Tom Gin Since 1996, Château de Bonbonnet in the southwest of France has been the home of Citadelle Gin. Citadelle is proud of its geographic location, and from this they take inspiration. In 1836, in one of the many bars he frquented, Charles Dickens marveled at "the ingenuity employed to give sobriquets to gin, with one term more seductive than the next, to describe it in multiple ways." One of these nicknames was "No Mistake" and Citadelle felt it appropriate for their Old Tom gin. Old Tom gin's were popular in England during the 19th century, and Citadelle wanted to keep this in mind. These were sweetened gins, and during travels in the Carribean, a brown sugar (similar to Demerera) was discovered. Moist and heavy, it was the missing ingredient Citadelle had been searching for.  The Old Tom gin consists of blending Citadelle Réserve (used due to its floral notes), with aged sugar. This is then placed back in casks and rested (again) for several months.  The result is a gin with a beautiful gold colour. The aroma is fresh, and powerful - juniper, the zest of orange and cardamom come forward early, before herbal and floral aromas come through (jasmine & honeysuckle), and a sweet coffee like fragrance. In the mouth this is deliciously full, and elegant. It has a sweet profile as can be expected with the added sugar, but this blends with other flavours and is perfectly balanced. Lemon zest, anise and almond join with warm spice notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and cubeb pepper.  The finish is long. Floral, with more woody spiced notes, and hints of licorice. Read more about Citadelle Perfect Serve Whilst this works in a number of cocktails calling for Old Tom Gins (such as the Tom Collins or the Martinez), we like this best sipped. The sweet notes almost remind of a rich rum - and we find is delicious enjoyed simply and on its own (maybe with a single large ice cube).
