This is a tropical gin, but one with a wolf's bite! They have infused their craft spirit with juicy white peaches and sweet passionfruit, giving a truly tropical taste sensation. But they didn't stop there! Rounding out the flavour profile, they have added a hint of citrus sharpness from Yuzu. The classic pine juniper notes remain, but as Lonewolf says "this wolf's sitting pool side with shades on". Overall this makes this a drink which is perfect for breezy days and balmy nights. Schodu Gin Schodu Gin comes from the South-West of the Netherlands in Zeeland, and is made with local ingredients, sea buckthorn, rosehip, pine tips and pear along with the obligatory juniper. These ingredients blend perfectly, with none of them overpowering the others. Hooghoudt Sweet Spiced Genever With their sweet spiced genever, Hooghoudt bring a contemporaty twist to Genever - and sure to please genever lovers, as well as introduce it to a whole new audience. Made in a traditional way, with juniper and spice - this has a sweetened taste (as the name suggests), being made also with vanilla and cinnamon.  This is a really apppealing genever on the nose, with a sweet caramel aroma and hints of vanilla and cinnamon. There is a definite note of juniper too, and a touch of liquorice. On the palate this has similar notes to the aroma. It's smooth, and bursting with flavour. There's quite a lot of spice, but mild and warming rather than full of heat. A touch of fruit from grapefruit and apricot, and caramel along with vanilla really come through as well. Poetic License Old Tom Gin Reminiscent of the types of gin that were enjoyed in the 1800's, Old Tom Gin's are sweeter - and have been making a come back recently. With theirs, the Poetic License Distillery in Sunderland (North UK) have made a gin which is sweeter than their Dry Gin, but with a touch of pepper. The botanicals they use enhance the sweeter taste, and the oak casks they use continue to add additional flavour and colour. The inclusion of hibiscus and rose petals infuses their distinct character within the gin, also adding a delightful rose gold tinge. On the nose this gin is quite aromatic, with distinct floral aromas. However, with its juniper back note there is no forgetting this is a gin! On the palate the sweetness really comes through, tempered with the pepper spice - the sugary petal flavours blend perfectly. V2C Classic Dutch Dry Gin V2C takes pride in its home (Amsterdam), but like the Dutch of old, looks to the wider world when thinking of ingredients. They ensure that the gin is created to the highest standards, and use ingredients harvested from across the world. With their name, they indicate the intent behind the gin. Four friends founded V2C, and it was named after the address they lived during their studies, the famous Victor de Stuersstraat 2C in Maastricht. To this end, the gin was created to encourage lively conversation and good times with friends. With their Classic gin, they pay homage to the more classic gin flvaours, but with a definite V2C twist. They use the freshest juniper, orange, licorice, laurel and St John’s Wort, which they subtly spice with coriander, cardamom, lemon and ginger. This is a gin which is definitely juniper-forward (another "classic" part to the gin), which is joined perfectly with soft spice and tangy fruit. This brings a subtle, light complexity to the drink. The taste has a lot of oily juniper which coats the mouth perfectly. Pine and cardamom spice are balanced by refreshing citrus notes. Theres also a hint of vanilla flower which creeps in. On the palate you are greeted with the juniper again, but this is brightened with a herbaceous note and refreshing lemon zest and grapefruit. Hooghoudt RAW Genever For their RAW Genever, Hooghoudt have combined four different malt spirits (3 individually distilled - barley, wheat, rye and the classic malt mix of wheat corn and rye), and blended this with a carefully selected selection of juniper (it is Genever!), herbs and spices.  As this is a RAW genever, it is not aged in Oak barrels, which gives it the fresh character of a young genever. Unlike with gin, the alcohol base of malt is not just a carrier for the oils and spices - but also a flavour in itself of the genever itself - and adds a distinct flavour. The aroma of this genever has subtle grain notes, which are complemented with juniper, citrus and a herbal background. The flavour is again full of the grain used in its creation, with citrus, coriander and a mild touch of sweetness. Velverty in the mouth, and with a slight spice in the aftertaste. Mermaid Spiced Rum Presented in a stunning "fish-scale" like bottle with a cork stopper, this rum is hand-crafted on the Isle of Wight (a small island off the south coast of the UK).  Mermaid Spiced Rum is a carefully selected blend of sugar cane and molasses rum from Trinidad and the Dominican Republic which have been aged between 2-5 years in oak bourbon whiskey barrels. On its arrival into the distillery, the blend is infused with local fruits and spices found on the Isle of Wight. The botanicals include rock samphire, fresh white cherry and apricot, honey from their own beehives and black salt from their floodtides. It is gently spiced using local holy grass, cassia and vanilla, resulting in a smooth yet complex rum with a hint of sea air, delicate caramel notes and a vibrant fruity spice. Did you know? To this end, they hand-craft their drinks using only 100% natural ingredients which (where possible) they source locally. With their Fresh Citrus Vodka, Wildjac have created a fresh and zesty vodka which is distilled (unusually) with Worcestershire (a county in the centre of the UK), Endeavour hops and Lemon Thyme. The other ingredients rounding out the botanical compliment are elderflower, orange peel, viola, lemon zest, pink grapefruit, coriander, lime, eucalyptus and bergamot. With a bright aroma full of citrus notes this is a joy to the nose. The citrus flavours continue throughout the drink, with crisp lemon freshness and a hint of warmth from the coriander. They use Angelica, orange, organic autumn bliss raspberries and organic shropshire prune damsons from the Augernik Fruit Farm, juniper and coriander. Van Kleef Gin  Founded in 1842 in the heart of the city of the Hague, Van Kleef is now the last remaining jenever and liqueur brand to be found based there. They believe the quality, craftmanship, and the combined history in their drinks help to make a true "lifewater".  For their gin, they use a base of a grain alcohol - which helps ensure a smooth gin. Whilst the full recipe is a secret, the flavours in predominant flavours are juniper (it is gin!), coriander and angelica seed.  The result is a classic gin, but one with a twist. G'Vine Floraison Gin Setting itself apart from the crowd, G'Vine use a base of alcohol which is distilled from Ugni Blanc grapes. Using this grape "brandy" they then create something really quite special, a definite modern take on gin. After all, what else would the French use than a grape base! But the influence of the grape vine doesn't stop there. They also quite uniquely use the flowers too. These are harvested before the vine can fruit. These are macerated (mixed) and distilled seperately, along with the other 9 botanicals in the gin. After this process is complete, they are blended in just the right quantities before being distilled together once more. The 10 botanics used in the gins creation are juniper, grape flowers, cardamom, cassia, coriander, cubeb pepper, ginger, licorice, lime and nutmeg. The overall result is very refreshing, and quite surprising. On the nose, it opens with a welcome from the lime, and a floral undertone. The juniper comes through gently too, just to remind this is indeed a gin! In the mouth this gin takes you on a complex, and enjoyable journey. It begins with a floral introduction, before the juniper (mildly) comes through along with a gently warmth from ginger and lime. This continues with a touch of pepper, and anise making themselves known - whilst the piney juniper continues.  As the gin finishes, there is a a delicate sweetness which comes onto the tongue. Anise continues through, right to the end, but you are also greeted by the cardamom, a hint of vanilla and then the liquorice roots comes through. Blind Tiger Piper Cubeba Gin Whilst it gives a striking look to the bottle, there is a reason behind the name of Blind Tiger. Another name for a speakeasy, A blind tiger was a hidden bar which served alcohol during the period of prohibition. The door of the place would have the picture of a blind tiger or a blind pig, so those in the know would know where to go! Blind Tiger's Piper Cubeba gin is made in small batches in a "concealed" distillery in the west of Belgium, they macerate and distill the botanicals together before adding double distilled cubeb pepper. Daring and invigorating, this gin has a unique blend of botanicals, which give it a distinct spicy profile from the cubeb pepper, which is joined with hints of citrus from orange. Unusually, they use malted barley in their distillation along with the required juniper. These are joined with corriander seeds, bitter orange peel, orange blossom, ginger, green cardamom, lavender and licorice, angelica and orris root. Finally, a secret Belgian botanical is added. Definitely a spicy gin, with clear citrus notes. J&B Rare Whisky The history behind J&B (Justerini & Brooks) goes back to 1749, when it was founded as a Fine Wine & Spirits merchant to supply the aristocratic houses of London. It even went on to supply every British Monarch since King George III in 1761. This, their J&B Rare Whisky first went on sale in 1933 following the end of prohibition in the US. The blend contains a total of 42 different single malt and grain whiskies from Scotland. These include distilleries like Knockando, Auchroisk and Glen Spey. Whilst the whisky was created with mixing in mind - it is most definitely versatile enough to be enjoyed neat, or on the rocks - with its smooth, fruity taste being enjoyed however you like. On the nose there are notes or orange zest and malt, with warming caramel, apples and walnuts. The palate is balanced, smooth and full of ripe fruit - with the malt and a delicate toffee sweetness. As the drink finishes, it remains exeptionally balanced - lingering, but not overly so to a medium finish with woody oak and a touch of cinnamon spice.  More from J&B Perfect Serve Whilst this is a whisky which is easily enjoyed on its own - we really liked this in a Whisky Ginger.
