Portobello Road London Dry No. 171 Gin Whilst it may be better known for its saturday markets (which is famous for its second-hand clothes, pastries and antiques), Portobello Road in the west of London holds another secret... On the top two floors of a 19th century pub is The Ginstitute. London's second-smallest museum and home to a 30L alembic still, "Copernicus the Second". Whilst creating The Ginstiture, its creators (Ged, Jake and Paul) decided that to be a 'real' gin experience, they needed a gin which could call The Ginstitute home. So, after nine months of experimention, Portobello Road London Dry No. 171 Gin was born. They distill using a base spirit which is created from English-grown wheat, and join this with nine other carefully selected botanical ingredients including Juniper berries and Orris from Tuscany, Spanish Lemon Peels, Bitter Orange peels from Haiti or Morocco, Nutmeg from Indonesia and Cassia Bark from South East Asia. On the front of the palate, Portobello Road Gin has a generous hit of juniper, mid-palate there is a sustained, fresh citrus character from lemon, bitter orange and coriander, which then develops into a sweet peppery finish from liquorice and nutmeg. Ketel 1 Jenever This Jenever takes its name from the Ketel (still) used in its creation. Ketel 1 is the oldest copper pot still in Schiedam (the historic home of Jenever in the Netherlands). and is still in use today. With over 325 years, and 11 generations of the Nolet family watching over it's production, there is a lot of history and expertise used in its creation.  This Jenever is created using pure ingredients. Grain distillates are mixed with an aged grain spirit, along with a carefully selected (and still secret) blend of herbs. The distillers believe this is best savoured quietly, which allows the flavours to speak. It's fresh and full on the palate with notes of juniper and pepper. The finish is exceptionally long, ending soft. More from Ketel One Perfect Serve Easily enjoyed on its own, from a Tulip glass - this jenever also works exceptionally well in the mix. Try a 'Dutch and Stormy' cocktail for instance. Take a large glass, or copper mule mug, and fill with ice. Add 50ml of the Jenever, and 20ml of freshly squeezed lime juice. Stir gently, and then slowly fill the glass with ginger beer. If enjoyed, add a drop or two of Angosura Bitters and garnish with a lime wedge.

Chase Original Potato Vodka Using a true 'field-to-bottle' philosophy, Chase is a family run distillery. They grow the potatoes they use to create their family of quality spirits. Their farm, and distillery is located in Herefordshire, in the west of England (close to the Welsh border).  To create one bottle of their Potato Vodka, Chase use 250 of their home-grown potatoes. The vodka is created by mashing the potatoes, and distilling them in their copper pot still (which they affectionately call 'Fat Betty').  The result is a smooth a creamy vodka. On the nose there is a mild hint of freshly sliced potato, true to its origins. On the palate there is a creamy texture, with a butteriness to it which ensures the mouth is coated well helping to impart the full flavour. The finish is clean and smooth, and leaves hints of earthy mineral undertones. Wildjac Natural Dry Gin Based in the Wyre Forest, to the South West of Birmingham in the UK, Wildjac strive to produce a range of sustainable and eco-friendly premium botanical spirits. To this end, they hand-craft their drinks using only 100% natural ingredients which (where possible) they source locally. For their Natural Dry Gin, Wildjac have taken inspiration from deep within their home, the Wyre Forest. Using Douglas Fir, Coriander, Liquorice, Elderberry, Chamomile, Juniper, Angelica, Lemon Balm, Fresh Orange, Fresh Lemon and Thyme they have created a gin which takes the drinker right to the heart of the forest with them. On the nose this is zesty, with lively herbaceous green notes from the juniper and douglas fir. V2C Classic Dutch Dry Gin V2C takes pride in its home (Amsterdam), but like the Dutch of old, looks to the wider world when thinking of ingredients. They ensure that the gin is created to the highest standards, and use ingredients harvested from across the world. With their name, they indicate the intent behind the gin. Four friends founded V2C, and it was named after the address they lived during their studies, the famous Victor de Stuersstraat 2C in Maastricht. To this end, the gin was created to encourage lively conversation and good times with friends. With their Classic gin, they pay homage to the more classic gin flvaours, but with a definite V2C twist. They use the freshest juniper, orange, licorice, laurel and St John’s Wort, which they subtly spice with coriander, cardamom, lemon and ginger. This is a gin which is definitely juniper-forward (another "classic" part to the gin), which is joined perfectly with soft spice and tangy fruit. This brings a subtle, light complexity to the drink. The taste has a lot of oily juniper which coats the mouth perfectly. Pine and cardamom spice are balanced by refreshing citrus notes. Theres also a hint of vanilla flower which creeps in. Citadelle Gin Mini Since 1996, Château de Bonbonnet in the southwest of France has been the home of Citadelle Gin. Citadelle is proud of its geographic location, and from this they take inspiration. Thie aim was to distill the essence of their region into one perfectly crisp spirit. It takes time to make Citadelle gin. There are 19 botanicals that make up Citadelle. These are infused, depending on their flavour profile, for between one and four days. This is crucial so that Citadelle can acquire its full flavour profile. After this, it is then distilled in small copper stills over open flames in order to develop its suppleness and full rounded character in the mouth. Citadelle Gin exudes subtle aromas of fresh flowers which are highlighted by more assertive citric scents. In the glass, it emanates more intense, herbaceous notes of juniper and anise; which is then followed by the spicy cinnamon side which softens the nose. This brings a very gourmand dimension to the gin. On the palate, the juniper is forward, but cedes to a long, voluptuous, spicy fragrance. There are three distinct traits within Citadelle which offers its complete aromatic richness. Juniper its signature. It doesn't hide from the fact its a gin, and juniper forms the key base of Citadelle. This is joined with citrus - this is a complementary note that underlines the juniper.
