Glenfiddich Single Malt 12Y Scotch Whisky Having been founded in 1886 by William Grant, the first whisky ran from their stills on Christmas Day in 1887. The name actually name comes from the location of the distillery, situated in the glen of the river Fiddich. In scots gaelic Glenfiddich means 'valley of the deer', hence the stag found on the bottles. This whisky has been produced since 2008 and is awarded the world over. It's also the most awarded at the IWSC and claims the distinction of being the world's best-selling single-malt whisky. It's known for both its freshness and distinctive fruitiness, both a result of its production methods. The freshness comes from the highland spring water (used since 1887), and the fruitiness form the high cut point which was insisted on by William Grant himself.  The maturation occurs in both american oak, and european oak sherry casks for at least 12 years. Mellowed in oak marrying tuns to ensure a sweet, yet subtle oak flavour.  On the nose the renowned fresh and fruity aroma comes through with a hint of pear. The taste has fruity notes with a characteristic sweetness. These develop into a creamy butterscotch, delicious malt notes and subtle oak flavours. Ketel 1 Jenever This Jenever takes its name from the Ketel (still) used in its creation. Ketel 1 is the oldest copper pot still in Schiedam (the historic home of Jenever in the Netherlands). and is still in use today. With over 325 years, and 11 generations of the Nolet family watching over it's production, there is a lot of history and expertise used in its creation.  This Jenever is created using pure ingredients. Grain distillates are mixed with an aged grain spirit, along with a carefully selected (and still secret) blend of herbs. The distillers believe this is best savoured quietly, which allows the flavours to speak. It's fresh and full on the palate with notes of juniper and pepper. The finish is exceptionally long, ending soft. More from Ketel One Perfect Serve Easily enjoyed on its own, from a Tulip glass - this jenever also works exceptionally well in the mix. Try a 'Dutch and Stormy' cocktail for instance. Take a large glass, or copper mule mug, and fill with ice. Add 50ml of the Jenever, and 20ml of freshly squeezed lime juice. Stir gently, and then slowly fill the glass with ginger beer. If enjoyed, add a drop or two of Angosura Bitters and garnish with a lime wedge.

Lonewolf Cloudy Lemon Gin A haze of gin and sharp citrus. Like any wolf, this one is no different. This gin is ruled by the full moon, it's macerated in fresh Sicilian lemon peel for seven days before its released into the wild. Handcrafted in their distillery in Aberdeen (North Scotland, UK - and a part of the Brewdog family), the botanicals in this gin tell the own story. Scotch Pine (which compliments and bolsters the juniper), Tuscan juniper, grapefruit peel, lemon peel, pink peppercorn, orris root, angelica, mace, cardamom, lemongrass, kaffir lime, almonds, coriander, and Lavender. With a really strong lemon nose and a merciless juniper kick, this wolf is a crossbreed to be reckoned with. The bottle is pretty spectacular too, with the trademark punk wolf (obviously the rare lemon variety) on the front of the bottle. Lebensstern Alpine Gin The story behind the Lebensstern range of gins starts in Berlin. The Lebensstern Bar is located in a former 1920s illegal casino situated above Cafe Einstein. They are well-known for their excellent cocktails, and an impressive collection of bottles (more than 1,800 spirit, including 600 rums and 200 gins). Their range of gins are produced by the Destillerie Freihof in Lustenau, Austria. Here they have been distilling since 1885 - and remains a family owned company to this day. For this Gin, they took inspiration from the Alpine region, and used a number of herbs and botanicals found there. Even the light blue hue to the gin is reminiscent of the alpine sky. The aroma has delicate hints of piney juniper, as well as well as fresh, floral herbal notes. On the palate again, the herbal flavours merge perfectly with the juniper. A light floral quality, with elderflower and citrus as backing notes ensures this is a really refreshing gin. More from Lebensstern Perfect Serve This can be enjoyed slowly over plenty of ice, however we liked this best mixed with an elderflower tonic. This adds a little more sweetness and enhances that found in the gin. Fentimans Elderflower Tonic worked exceptionally well. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and stir gently. Garnish with a slice of lemon.

Portobello Road London Dry No. 171 Gin Whilst it may be better known for its saturday markets (which is famous for its second-hand clothes, pastries and antiques), Portobello Road in the west of London holds another secret... On the top two floors of a 19th century pub is The Ginstitute. London's second-smallest museum and home to a 30L alembic still, "Copernicus the Second". Whilst creating The Ginstiture, its creators (Ged, Jake and Paul) decided that to be a 'real' gin experience, they needed a gin which could call The Ginstitute home. So, after nine months of experimention, Portobello Road London Dry No. 171 Gin was born. They distill using a base spirit which is created from English-grown wheat, and join this with nine other carefully selected botanical ingredients including Juniper berries and Orris from Tuscany, Spanish Lemon Peels, Bitter Orange peels from Haiti or Morocco, Nutmeg from Indonesia and Cassia Bark from South East Asia. On the front of the palate, Portobello Road Gin has a generous hit of juniper, mid-palate there is a sustained, fresh citrus character from lemon, bitter orange and coriander, which then develops into a sweet peppery finish from liquorice and nutmeg. X-Gin Through a collaboration between Xolato's chocolatier Peter Messely and Patrick from De Moor distillery, comes something special.... X-Gin After many attempts, and over 45 different botanicals, this recipe was settles on. It combines juniper berries with 15 herbs and several of the best spices known to man. These include cocoa beans from Colombia, wild pepper and vanilla from Madagascar as well as hazelnuts from Piemonte in Italy. It is unique, and deliciously light on the palette. There is a lingering spiciness, with hints of chilli and cocoa. Juniper is quite pronounced at the start, but doesn't linger, allowing the other botanicals their own time to shine. You could say it has the taste of passion, a touch of cocoa and the tiniest whiff of vanilla It really is a special gin, it's pure and soft aromas definitely provoke an intense feeling of pleasure Read more about Xolato Perfect Serve A really versatile gin, this can quite easily be drunk neat over ice, but also works well in cocktails.  For a classic G & T we recommend this one with Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic Water. Tito's Handmade Vodka "I was raised that if you are going to do something, do it right, do it better than anyone else, and charge a reasonable price." - Tito This is the ethos that is behind Tito's Vodka. Indeed, prior to Bert 'Tito' Beveridge creating his vodka, he went out and purchased every vodka he could. He found the two best, and then when he managed to distill a vodka which consistently beat these - he felt he had his final recipe. So, in 1995 Tito got the first (legal) permit to distill in Texas (USA), and started creating his Vodka. The label is simple, and created by Tito himself. He didn't want to add any unnecessary costs, or distract from what was inside the bottle. They batch distill their vodka (which is corn-based, not the more common potato or wheat) using old-fashioned pot stills and due to the corn base, the vodka is naturally Gluten-Free. The distillation is done a total of six times to ensure it's smoothness. This is a vodka which is perfectly neutral, and extremely smooth. For something a little different and deliciously floral, try with Thomas Henry's Cherry Blossom Tonic. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the vodka. Filliers Dry Gin 28 1928 Tribute Gin As the name suggests, this Tribute Gin is an homage to Firmin Filliers, the creator of the original recipe. This recipe dates back to 1928, when third generation Firmin Filliers ran the company and developed the recipe.  Not only is the history of this gin reflected through the use of the original recipe but they have also used the shape, and label of the original bottle. The iconic pharmacy bottle was obtained by Firmin through his cousin who was a pharmacist in Antwerp. It was an emergency solution because glass was very expensive, but could be argued to be a visionary move that still charatarises the Filliers Dry Gin 28 to this day. This is a complex gin, with a number of different layers of flavour. These range from deep malt and hops, to angelica root and lavender. Rather like the time it was created (the roaring 20's), the flavours are elegant yet flambouyant in how they dance over the tongue. Blind Tiger Piper Cubeba Gin Whilst it gives a striking look to the bottle, there is a reason behind the name of Blind Tiger. Another name for a speakeasy, A blind tiger was a hidden bar which served alcohol during the period of prohibition. The door of the place would have the picture of a blind tiger or a blind pig, so those in the know would know where to go! Blind Tiger's Piper Cubeba gin is made in small batches in a "concealed" distillery in the west of Belgium, they macerate and distill the botanicals together before adding double distilled cubeb pepper. Daring and invigorating, this gin has a unique blend of botanicals, which give it a distinct spicy profile from the cubeb pepper, which is joined with hints of citrus from orange. Unusually, they use malted barley in their distillation along with the required juniper. These are joined with corriander seeds, bitter orange peel, orange blossom, ginger, green cardamom, lavender and licorice, angelica and orris root. Finally, a secret Belgian botanical is added. Definitely a spicy gin, with clear citrus notes. The end finish is spicy too, with the piper cubeb (pepper) coming through as well as a warmth from the malted barley and earthy notes from ginger liquorice and cardamom.   Read more about Blind Tiger Perfect Serve Whilst this is really delicious drunk on its own over ice, having it as a gin tonic brings out a slightly different character. Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky First produced in Scotland by Willian Grant & Sons in 2003, Monkey Shoulder is a blended malt whisky (the style used to be called 'Vatted Malt Whisky'). Since it's introduction it has fast grown to become the world's third best-selling brand of Scotch Whisky.  Whilst Monkey Shoulder has only been produced since 2003, William Grant & Sons has been distilling award-winning Scotch whiskies since 1887. It was created primarily to ensure the perfect whisky cocktail (but of course can also be enjoyed straight!). It was originally a blend from the Balbenie, Glenfiddich, and Kininvie distillers - but it's current composition is a secret. However it is known that its constituent malt whiskies originate from the Speyside region of Scotland (the area around the River Spey in northeastern Scotland).
