Wartile is a fantasy real-time strategy game with card and board game elements. This is the first project of the Danish Playwood Project Aps studio - founded by Michael Rud Jakobsen, a longtime employee of IO Interactive (including work on Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days). The production is likened by the creators to the peculiar "chess without division into turns". Wartile takes place in a dark fantasy world inspired by Norse mythology. In the game, we take control of a group of Vikings, plundering new, potentially noteworthy regions. The essence of the game is real-time clashes in which our players take part. Each of them has strengths and weaknesses. Their proper use is one of the keys to success. The next one is the deck of cards built by the player. They not only strengthen the squad members and impose various modifiers on them, but also trigger defensive and offensive actions. Often, in an instant, we change the fate of the entire battle in this way. Cards also play an important role in your exploration. The fights take place on unusual maps. These are three-dimensional locations, divided into hexes. As a result, the whole thing is reminiscent of a turn-based strategy, but with the game taking place without division into turns. The level of battle complexity is positively influenced not only by the variety of units, but also by the surface shape. Units stationed in the higher parts of the maps are in a much better situation. As a result, in order to win, the player has to work hard and work out a number of different strategies.
