Void Bastards is a science fiction first person shooter. It was enriched with strategic elements and typical for roguelike production. The project was developed by Blue Manchu studio, with the highly acclaimed Card Hunter. The development team included people who played key roles in the production of titles such as System Shock 2 or BioShock.
Story
The action of the game takes place in the distant future and follows the journey of the Ark, on which the prisoners are detained. The leitmotif of Void Bastards is getting out of the Sargasso nebula, densely packed with drifting wrecks of spacecraft. This task is undertaken by subsequent prisoners and in the event of the death of one of them, the deceased is automatically replaced by the next one.
Void Bastards does not have an extensive storyline. We only learn the general assumptions of the game and after starting the actual game we focus only on gameplay. During the campaign, we do not receive any quests, because the whole game focuses on constructing story items that will be helpful in escaping the nebula. However, there were also simple cut-scenes that took the form of comic book cards.
Gameplay
Void Bastards is a genre hybrid in which the gameplay is divided into two levels. In strategic mode, we always see only a fragment of the nebula. We need to skillfully manage our supplies of food, fuel, ammunition and other raw materials, as well as decide where to go. Traveling to lower levels of the nebula allows you to advance in the campaign, but on the other hand, it is associated with greater challenges. The void of space is patrolled by star whales and pirates, so in the early stages of the game it is necessary to avoid contact with these threats. There are also random events on the galaxy map, such as the appearance of a wormhole, an automated store where we can buy the most necessary supplies, or a storehouse of valuable loot.
