Tales of Symphonia is a classic jRPG game, part of the Tales of series. The title debuted in 2004 on the Nintendo GameCube console, and shortly thereafter received a port for PlayStation 2, which did not leave Japan - later reissues for other hardware platforms are based on it. The Japanese company Bandai Namco is responsible for the production. The beginnings of the Tales of series date back to 1995 - this series is not as popular as, for example, Final Fantasy, but it has a dedicated and constantly growing fan base.
Tales of Symphonia remains one of the best-rated representatives of the series mainly due to its storyline. The main character of the game is young and enthusiastic Lloyd Irving, who, together with his friend, accompanies Colette Brunel and her entourage on a pilgrimage with special powers. The purpose of the journey is the temples scattered around the world. In each of them, Collete must take part in a ritual aimed at saving a dying planet.
Due to its age, Tales of Symphonia does not have such an extensive and comprehensive combat system and functionality as the later games in the series. The gameplay corresponds to the standards to which we are accustomed to jRPGs. The plot of the title is linear, players travel around the world map, on which various types of locations are marked. Skirmishes with opponents take place in small arenas in real time. During duels, players can control each hero from their team directly, using various types of special skills and complex combos. Due to the arcade nature of the production, it is best to play with a standard gamepad.
