And this corduroy is perfect for the purpose. It contains wide ridges (8 Wales) and is made from 100% cotton, so it is comfortable to wear and breathable. Velvet is hardwearing and suitable for both clothing and creative projects for the home. Velvet for you - and your home! You decide what you want to sew. There are of course the classic corduroy trousers, but it could also be a nice shirt-dress, a cool spencer or maybe a smaller project like a lovely bucket hat? And when it comes to home-ware: How about sewing some velvet cushions for the sofa? Or you can use velvet to make the coolest shopper or belt bag. Find your favourite colours and get started with scissors, needle and thread!   Velvet is sold by the metre, so simply order the length you need. Great for sports This material is comfortable to wear and offers maximum freedom of movement. This means it's brilliant for all kinds of sports, so you can confidently start sewing sporty leggings and tops for your own and others' active pursuits.  And if you're more into water? Then the black variant is your go-to. It's chlorine-resistant, making it suitable for swimsuits, bikinis, and swim shorts.  And great for everything else We've covered the sporty designs, but you can also use this fabric for everyday and party wear for both adults and children. Leggings for a party, a beautifully draping skirt, or an elegant top.  The possibilities are endless – just get out the sewing machine and get started.  A bit of practicality This fabric is made of 92% polyester and 8% elastane. It measures 150 cm in width, and you can expect it to shrink by 6% when washed. Choose the length you need for your DIY project. When working with jersey, we recommend using a jersey needle, which is characterised by having a medium point – also known as ball point. The needle easily penetrates the knitted quality and prevents stitches and threads from running. For this type of jersey, we recommend jersey needles in size 70/80.

Cotton satin - the best of both worldsHow about trying our soft cotton fabric in a range of beautiful colours for your next creative project. It's soft and comfortable to work with.Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven. This means that when we say cotton satin, it has the same beautiful weave as more 'classic' satin, while the cotton quality gives a more matt finish to the fabric.  And what can you use cotton satin for? Well, that’s entirely up to you. We prefer using it for bed linen. The natural material of the cotton in the delicate satin weave makes for some really lovely home made bed linen. As with so many other cottons, it is also suitable for clothing. Cotton is comfortable to wear and the fine weave gives it a nice finish - for a summer shirt or skirt, for example. Cotton satin is also perfect for a tablecloth for the table. Sew the tablecloth yourself or select "Sew as a tablecloth" and we will sew it for you (click on the text for details). Practical information about cotton satinMade from 100% cotton, it's soft and fluffy and, as always, you buy the fabric by the metre, so you get exactly the length you need. The fabric is 145 cm wide, has a weight of 130 grams and shrinks about 8% in the wash. You can wash it at 60° and iron at medium heat - but avoid the tumble dryer; let it air dry instead. TIP: Finish your seams properly - satin tends to fray a lot. You could also consider using a wider seam allowance to secure your seams or use overlock stitching. As always - test your seams on a scrap piece beforehand to see which technique works best for your piece of fabric. Search "9 tips for sewing satin" for more tips. What is satin? Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven, where one side of the material is smooth and shiny. This fabric paint pen is water-based and suitable for drawing on light-toned cotton, linen, silk, and textile blends with up to 20% synthetic fibres. Use your marker on already finished projects, or decorate them as you sew. This textile marker has a stroke width of 2-4 mm, making it especially suitable for decorative projects, upcycling or labelling children's clothing, and more. We recommend placing a plastic sheet between your fabric layers, to prevent the dye from staining the underlying layers. The marker is ready for use – remove the cap, and you're good to go. After use, we recommend leaving your project to dry for at least six hours, before heat-fixing it with an iron. Cover your project, i.e. with a tea towel or another cloth, to protect it during fixation. Your project is now washable at up to 60°C - please wash inside out. Fabric markers are best stored horizontally. The fabric marker is not suitable for children under three years of age.

You can also choose to use the shiny fabric as a lining in your project; it adds a beautiful finish. And then, of course, you can use satin for clothing - for example, a nice satin shirt, a pair of cool satin trousers or maybe a jumpsuit with a drawstring waist. The fabric has a width of 135 cm and shrinks about 3% in the wash. It can be washed at 30°, always hang dry and iron at low heat. TIP: Use good quality fleece and interfacing to stabilise smaller parts like collars and cuffs. We recommend ironing it on before cutting out the pattern pieces - and remember to iron without steam (water can leave small stains and the high temperatures from the steam can change the surface of the fabric!)
