The most flexible satinDresses, jackets, shirts, tops and skirts - you can sew pretty much anything you want with this stretch satin fabric.   It's the classic satin weave with elastane added, so you get a more matte surface and a more flexible material with greater freedom of movement than the classic satin weaves. Choose from a wide range of beautiful colours and get crafty for your next festive occasion. A little more about this satinThe fabric is made of polyester/elastane, measures 135 cm in width and can be washed at 40° - remember to let it air dry hanging and iron only at low heat. It shrinks approx. 1% in the wash. TIP: Sharp scissors are a must when working with satin. The fabric can be difficult to cut because it's slippery and also offers a lot of resistance. Use a good quality pair of fabric scissors or, if you want to make it even easier, a sharp roller knife/roller cutter. You take wool fibres and press them together, forming a dense and durable material, either by wet or dry felting. If you choose the wet felting method, you work with the wool by folding, pressing, and rubbing it. If you choose the dry felting method, you'll need a needle with small hooks that attach the fibres together as you repeatedly poke and pull them through the material. You'll need some tools. The most important are a good felting needle and felting pad. As you poke the wool, the material becomes firmer, and you can gradually create patterns, figures, jewellery, and decorations. Cotton satin - the best of both worldsHow about trying our soft cotton fabric in a range of beautiful colours for your next creative project. It's soft and comfortable to work with.Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven. This means that when we say cotton satin, it has the same beautiful weave as more 'classic' satin, while the cotton quality gives a more matt finish to the fabric.  And what can you use cotton satin for? Well, that’s entirely up to you. We prefer using it for bed linen. The natural material of the cotton in the delicate satin weave makes for some really lovely home made bed linen. As with so many other cottons, it is also suitable for clothing. Cotton is comfortable to wear and the fine weave gives it a nice finish - for a summer shirt or skirt, for example. Cotton satin is also perfect for a tablecloth for the table. Sew the tablecloth yourself or select "Sew as a tablecloth" and we will sew it for you (click on the text for details). Practical information about cotton satinMade from 100% cotton, it's soft and fluffy and, as always, you buy the fabric by the metre, so you get exactly the length you need. The fabric is 145 cm wide, has a weight of 130 grams and shrinks about 8% in the wash. You can wash it at 60° and iron at medium heat - but avoid the tumble dryer; let it air dry instead. TIP: Finish your seams properly - satin tends to fray a lot. You could also consider using a wider seam allowance to secure your seams or use overlock stitching. As always - test your seams on a scrap piece beforehand to see which technique works best for your piece of fabric. It's also a lovely material for a soft bodysuit for the little ones.  Explore our many different sewing patterns, or create your very own design.  Some practicalities This fabric consists of 92% organic cotton and 8% elastane; choose the length you need for your DIY project!  When working with jersey, we recommend using a jersey needle, which is characterised by having a medium point – also called ball point. The needle easily penetrates the knitted quality and prevents stitches and threads from running. For this type of jersey, we recommend jersey needles in size 70/80. Partially organic  Products with this label have an organic content of at least 25%. It could be, for example, fabrics with organic cotton mixed with other fibres. We've created this label so you can easily identify the proportion of organic content.
