Cotton satin - the best of both worldsHow about trying our soft cotton fabric in a range of beautiful colours for your next creative project. It's soft and comfortable to work with.Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven. This means that when we say cotton satin, it has the same beautiful weave as more 'classic' satin, while the cotton quality gives a more matt finish to the fabric.  And what can you use cotton satin for? Well, that’s entirely up to you. We prefer using it for bed linen. The natural material of the cotton in the delicate satin weave makes for some really lovely home made bed linen. As with so many other cottons, it is also suitable for clothing. Cotton is comfortable to wear and the fine weave gives it a nice finish - for a summer shirt or skirt, for example. Cotton satin is also perfect for a tablecloth for the table. Sew the tablecloth yourself or select "Sew as a tablecloth" and we will sew it for you (click on the text for details). Practical information about cotton satinMade from 100% cotton, it's soft and fluffy and, as always, you buy the fabric by the metre, so you get exactly the length you need. The fabric is 145 cm wide, has a weight of 130 grams and shrinks about 8% in the wash. You can wash it at 60° and iron at medium heat - but avoid the tumble dryer; let it air dry instead. TIP: Finish your seams properly - satin tends to fray a lot. You could also consider using a wider seam allowance to secure your seams or use overlock stitching. As always - test your seams on a scrap piece beforehand to see which technique works best for your piece of fabric. This opaque, water-based textile marker is suitable for drawing on fabrics in all colours; both light and dark. This fabric paint pen is best used on cotton, denim, linen, silk, or textile blends containing up to 20 % synthetic fibres. Use your marker on already finished projects, or decorate them as you sew. The textile marker has a stroke width of 2-4 mm, making it an especially suitable all-round marker for decorative projects, upcycling or labelling children’s clothing, and more. We recommend placing a plastic sheet between your fabric layers, to prevent the dye from staining the underlying layers. Remove the cap and shake the pen for 1-2 minutes before use. Push the felt tip down several times, if necessary, to allow the paint to satiate the tip. After use, we recommend leaving your project to dry for at least six hours, before heat-fixing it with an iron. Cover your project, i.e. with a tea towel or another cloth, to protect it during fixation. Your project is now washable at up to 60°C - please wash inside out. To prevent the tip from drying out, please store your textile markers horizontally. The fabric marker is not suitable for children under three years of age.

A wider elastic sits well at the waist and you can, for example, focus on the waist piece and let it play an active role in your design. It can be difficult to decide which elastic is right for your project. For some, it's a matter of trial and error - for others, there's plenty of inspiration to be found both here and elsewhere online. Or when you study the clothes you already love to wear. More information about the elastic bandThis 50 mm wide elastic is great for the drawstring in the waistband of your trousers and skirts. We love it for our yoga pants, for example: the elastic makes sure they stay in place no matter what exercise we do (even when we're just walking around the house on a Saturday watering flowers). This elastic is made from a mix of polyester and rubber; it is crocheted and relatively firm in quality.
