The burnout rate of a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is pegged at about 16 months. In other words that is what the average tenure of a CISO is at a business. At the end of their stay many CISOs look for totally different avenues of work or they try something else – namely starting their own Cybersecurity Consulting business. Although a CISO might have the skill and knowledge set to go it alone it takes careful planning to launch a successful Cyber Consulting business. This ranges all the way from developing a business plan to choosing the specific area in Cybersecurity that they want to serve. How to Start Your Own Cybersecurity Consulting Business: First-Hand Lessons from a Burned-Out Ex-CISO is written by an author who has real-world experience in launching a Cyber Consulting company. It is all-encompassing with coverage spanning from selecting which legal formation is most suitable to which segment of the Cybersecurity industry should be targeted. The book is geared specifically towards the CISO that is on the verge of a total burnout or career change. It explains how CISOs can market their experience and services to win and retain key customers. It includes a chapter on how certification can give a Cybersecurity consultant a competitive edge and covers the five top certifications in information security: CISSP CompTIA Security+ CompTIA CySA+ CSSP and CISM. The book’s author has been in the IT world for more than 20 years and has worked for numerous companies in corporate America. He has experienced CISO burnout. He has also started two successful Cybersecurity companies. This book offers his own unique perspective based on his hard-earned lessons learned and shows how to apply them in creating a successful venture. It also covers the pitfalls of starting a consultancy how to avoid them and how to bounce back from any that prove unavoidable. This is the book for burned-out former CISOs to rejuvenate themselves and their careers by launching their own consultancies. | How to Start Your Own Cybersecurity Consulting Business First-Hand Lessons from a Burned-Out Ex-CISO

Human Rights in the Media Fear and Fetish

Human Rights in the Media Fear and Fetish

This collection sets about untangling some of the knotty issues in the underexplored relationship between human rights and the media. We investigate how complex debates in political judicial academic and public life on the role and value of human rights are represented in the media particularly in print journalism. To focus the discussion we concentrate on media representation of the controversial proposals in the United Kingdom to repeal the Human Rights Act 1998 and to replace it with a British Bill of Rights. The collection is underpinned by the observation that views on human rights and on the proposals to repeal and replace are polarised. On the one hand human rights are presented as threatening and therefore utterly denigrated; on the other hand human rights are idolised and therefore uncritically celebrated. This is the ‘fear and fetish’ in our title. The media plays a decisive role in constructing this polarity through its representation of political and ideological viewpoints. In order to get to grips with the fear the fetish and this complex interrelationship the collection tackles key contemporary themes amongst them: the proposed British Bill of Rights Brexit prisoner-voting the demonisation of immigrants press freedom tabloid misreporting trial by media and Magna Carta. The collection explores media representation investigates media polarity and critiques the media’s role. | Human Rights in the Media Fear and Fetish

ANOVA and Mixed Models A Short Introduction Using R

ANOVA and Mixed Models: A Short Introduction Using R provides both the practitioner and researcher a compact introduction to the analysis of data from the most popular experimental designs. Based on knowledge from an introductory course on probability and statistics the theoretical foundations of the most important models are introduced. The focus is on an intuitive understanding of the theory common pitfalls in practice and the application of the methods in R. From data visualization and model fitting up to the interpretation of the corresponding output the whole workflow is presented using R. The book does not only cover standard ANOVA models but also models for more advanced designs and mixed models which are common in many practical applications. Features Accessible to readers with a basic background in probability and statistics Covers fundamental concepts of experimental design and cause-effect relationships Introduces classical ANOVA models including contrasts and multiple testing Provides an example-based introduction to mixed models Features basic concepts of split-plot and incomplete block designs R code available for all steps Supplementary website with additional resources and updates are available here. This book is primarily aimed at students researchers and practitioners from all areas who wish to analyze corresponding data with R. Readers will learn a broad array of models hand-in-hand with R including the applications of some of the most important add-on packages. | ANOVA and Mixed Models A Short Introduction Using R

Spatializing the History of Ecology Sites Journeys Mappings

Spatializing the History of Ecology Sites Journeys Mappings

Throughout its history the discipline of ecology has always been profoundly entangled with the history of space and place. On the one hand ecology is a field science that has thrived on the study of concrete spatial entities such as islands forests or rivers. These spaces are the workplaces in which ecological phenomena are identified observed and experimented on. They provide both epistemic opportunities and constraints that structure the agenda and the analytical sensibilities of ecological researchers. On the other hand ecological knowledge and practices have become important resources through which spaces and places are classified delineated explained experienced and managed. The impact of these activities reaches far beyond the realms of the ecological discipline. Many ecological concepts such as biotopes ecosystems and the biosphere have become entities that widely resonate in public life and policy making. This book explores the mutual entanglement between space and knowledge-making in the history of ecology. Its first goal is to explore to which extent a spatial perspective can shed new light on the history of ecological science. Second it uses ecology as a critical site to gain broader insights into the history of the environment in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Via a series of case studies – discussing topics that range from ecological field stations in the early-twentieth century Caribbean over wisent breeding in Nazi Germany to computer modelling in North American deserts – the book offers a tour through the changing landscapes of modern ecology. | Spatializing the History of Ecology Sites Journeys Mappings

Oil and Gas Technology and Humans Assessing the Human Factors of Technological Change

Oil and Gas Technology and Humans Assessing the Human Factors of Technological Change

The oil and gas industry is going through a major technological shift. This is particularly true of the Norwegian continental shelf where new work processes are being implemented based on digital infrastructure and information technology. The term Integrated Operations (IO) has been applied to this set of new processes. It is defined by the Centre for Integrated Operations in the Petroleum Industry as 'work processes and technology to make smarter decisions and better execution enabled by ubiquitous real time data collaborative techniques and access to multiple expertise'. It's claimed that IO is efficient optimises exploration reduces costs and improves safety performance. However the picture is not as clear-cut as it may appear. On the one hand the new work processes do not prevent major accidents: IO-related factors have been identified in recent events such as the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. On the other hand IO technology provides improved decision-making support (such as access to real-time data and expertise) which can reduce human and material losses and damage to the environment. Given these very different properties it's vital that the industry has a detailed understanding of the benefits and drawbacks of IO which this book sets out to do from a multidisciplinary point of view. It analyses Integrated Operations from the angles of statistics management science human factors and resilience engineering. These varied disciplines provide a multifaceted understanding of IO that better informs risk assessment practices as well as explaining new techniques and methods and provides state-of-the-art guidance to risk assessment practitioners working in the oil and gas industry. | Oil and Gas Technology and Humans Assessing the Human Factors of Technological Change
