The Handbook for Market Research for Life Sciences Companies Finding the Answers You Need to Understand Your Market

As innovation moves from the lab to the market a new research phase begins for the entrepreneur: the market research phase. Inspired by a new technology that can change the world critical questions need to be addressed. Is there a market for my innovation? Who are my clients? What do they need? Is my innovation filling that gap in the market? Who are my competitors? How are they approaching the market? If these questions are unaswered entrepreneurs meet potential investors or partners with only a basic understanding of their market. The objective of this book is to fill this gap. It is a practical manual that gives entrepreneurs real-world advice and tools to build a solid market model. The book provides tips models and tools entrepreneurs can use to collect interpret and present their market and integrate it into their business plan. What the entrepreneur learns in this book will help him throughout his journey. After going over the market research process he will learn how to design and use a number of market research tools and how to adapt them in a life science context. From building a web survey to preparing interviews to doing your own secondary research this handbook will help him gain a comprehensive understanding of how to perform his own market research activities and how to analyze his data. Finally a number of frameworks (such as the TAM-SAM-SOM as well as the KANO Model) are described so that he can efficiently share what he has learned using models that simply yet effectively shares findings. | The Handbook for Market Research for Life Sciences Companies Finding the Answers You Need to Understand Your Market

Games Gambling and Probability An Introduction to Mathematics

Games Gambling and Probability An Introduction to Mathematics

Many experiments have shown the human brain generally has very serious problems dealing with probability and chance. A greater understanding of probability can help develop the intuition necessary to approach risk with the ability to make more informed (and better) decisions. The first four chapters offer the standard content for an introductory probability course albeit presented in a much different way and order. The chapters afterward include some discussion of different games different ideas that relate to the law of large numbers and many more mathematical topics not typically seen in such a book. The use of games is meant to make the book (and course) feel like fun! Since many of the early games discussed are casino games the study of those games along with an understanding of the material in later chapters should remind you that gambling is a bad idea; you should think of placing bets in a casino as paying for entertainment. Winning can obviously be a fun reward but should not ever be expected. Changes for the Second Edition: New chapter on Game Theory New chapter on Sports Mathematics The chapter on Blackjack which was Chapter 4 in the first edition appears later in the book. Reorganization has been done to improve the flow of topics and learning. New sections on Arkham Horror Uno and Scrabble have been added. Even more exercises were added! The goal for this textbook is to complement the inquiry-based learning movement. In my mind concepts and ideas will stick with the reader more when they are motivated in an interesting way. Here we use questions about various games (not just casino games) to motivate the mathematics and I would say that the writing emphasizes a just-in-time mathematics approach. Topics are presented mathematically as questions about the games themselves are posed. Table of Contents Preface1. Mathematics and Probability 2. Roulette and Craps: Expected Value 3. Counting: Poker Hands 4. More Dice: Counting and Combinations and Statistics 5. Game Theory: Poker Bluffing and Other Games 6. Probability/Stochastic Matrices: Board Game Movement 7. Sports Mathematics: Probability Meets Athletics 8. Blackjack: Previous Methods Revisited 9. A Mix of Other Games 10. Betting Systems: Can You Beat the System? 11. Potpourri: Assorted Adventures in Probability Appendices Tables Answers and Selected Solutions Bibliography Biography Dr. David G. Al Jazeera and the Global Media Landscape The South is Talking Back

Al Jazeera and the Global Media Landscape The South is Talking Back

This book analyzes how and why Al Jazeera English (AJE) became the channel of choice to understand the massive protests across the Arab world 2011. Aiming to explain the ‘Al Jazeera moment ’ it tracks the channel’s bumpy road towards international recognition in a longitudinal in-depth analysis of the channel’s editorial profile and strategies. Studying AJE from its launch in mid-November 2006 to the ‘Arab Spring’ it explains and problematizes the channel’s ambitious editorial agenda and strategies examines the internal conflicts practical challenges and minor breakthroughs in its formative years. The Al Jazeera-phenomenon has received massive attention but it remains under-researched. The growth of transnational satellite television has transformed the global media landscape into a complex web of multi-vocal multimedia and multi-directional flows. Based on a combination of policy- production- and content analysis of comprehensive empirical data the book offers an innovative perspective on the theorization of global news contra-flows. By problematizing the distinctive characteristics of AJE it examines the strategic motivation behind the channel and the ways in which its production processes and news profile are meant to be different from its Anglo-American competitors. These questions underscore a central nexus of the book: the changing relationship between transnational satellite news and power. | Al Jazeera and the Global Media Landscape The South is Talking Back

Introduction to Electromagnetism From Coulomb to Maxwell

Introduction to Electromagnetism From Coulomb to Maxwell

This edition aims to expand on the first edition and take the reader through to the wave equation on coaxial cable and free-space by using Maxwell’s equations. The new chapters include time varying signals and fundamentals of Maxwell's equations. This book will introduce and discuss electromagnetic fields in an accessible manner. The author explains electroconductive fields and develops ideas relating to signal propagation and develops Maxwell’s equations and applies them to propagation in a planar optical waveguide. The first of the new chapters introduces the idea of a travelling wave by considering the variation of voltage along a coaxial line. This concept will be used in the second new chapter which solves Maxwell’s equations in free-space and then applies them to a planar optical waveguide in the third new chapter. As this is an area that most students find difficult it links back to the earlier chapters to aid understanding. This book is intended for first- and second-year electrical and electronic undergraduates and can also be used for undergraduates in mechanical engineering computing and physics. The book includes examples and homework problems. A Concordance to Conrad's Victory

An Introduction to Analysis

An Introduction to Analysis

The third edition of this widely popular textbook is authored by a master teacher. This book provides a mathematically rigorous introduction to analysis of realvalued functions of one variable. This intuitive student-friendly text is written in a manner that will help to ease the transition from primarily computational to primarily theoretical mathematics. The material is presented clearly and as intuitive as possible while maintaining mathematical integrity. The author supplies the ideas of the proof and leaves the write-up as an exercise. The text also states why a step in a proof is the reasonable thing to do and which techniques are recurrent. Examples while no substitute for a proof are a valuable tool in helping to develop intuition and are an important feature of this text. Examples can also provide a vivid reminder that what one hopes might be true is not always true. Features of the Third Edition: Begins with a discussion of the axioms of the real number system. The limit is introduced via sequences. Examples motivate what is to come highlight the need for hypothesis in a theorem and make abstract ideas more concrete. A new section on the Cantor set and the Cantor function. Additional material on connectedness. Exercises range in difficulty from the routine getting your feet wet types of problems to the moderately challenging problems. Topology of the real number system is developed to obtain the familiar properties of continuous functions. Some exercises are devoted to the construction of counterexamples. The author presents the material to make the subject understandable and perhaps exciting to those who are beginning their study of abstract mathematics. Table of Contents Preface Introduction The Real Number System Sequences of Real Numbers Topology of the Real Numbers Continuous Functions Differentiation Integration Series of Real Numbers Sequences and Series of Functions Fourier Series Bibliography Hints and Answers to Selected Exercises Index Biography James R. Forensic DNA Profiling A Practical Guide to Assigning Likelihood Ratios

Forensic DNA Profiling A Practical Guide to Assigning Likelihood Ratios

DNA testing and its forensic analysis are recognized as the “gold standard” in forensic identification science methods. However there is a great need for a hands-on step-by-step guide to teach the forensic DNA community how to interpret DNA mixtures how to assign a likelihood ratio and how to use the subsequent likelihood ratio when reporting interpretation conclusions. Forensic DNA Profiling: A Practical Guide to Assigning Likelihood Ratios will provide a roadmap for labs all over the world and the next generation of analysts who need this foundational understanding. The techniques used in forensic DNA analysis are based upon the accepted principles of molecular biology. The interpretation of a good-quality DNA profile generated from a crime scene stain from a single-source donor provides an unambiguous result when using the most modern forensic DNA methods. Unfortunately many crime scene profiles are not single source. They are described as mixed since they contain DNA from two or more individuals. Interpretation of DNA mixtures represents one of the greatest challenges to the forensic DNA analyst. As such the book introduces terms used to describe DNA profiles and profile interpretation. Chapters explain DNA extraction methods the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) capillary electrophoresis (CE) likelihood ratios (LRs) and their interpretation and population genetic models—including Mendelian inheritance and Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. It is important that analysts understand how LRs are generated in a probabilistic framework ideally with an appreciation of both semicontinuous and fully continuous probabilistic approaches. KEY FEATURES:• The first book to focus entirely on DNA mixtures and the complexities involved with interpreting the results • Takes a hands-on approach offering theory with worked examples and exercises to be easily understood and implementable by laboratory personnel • New methods heretofore unpublished previously provide a means to innovate deconvoluting a mixed DNA profile assign an LR and appropriately report the weight of evidence • Includes a chapter on assigning LRs for close relatives (i. e. “It’s not me it was my brother”) and discusses strategies for the validation of probabilistic genotyping softwareForensic DNA Profiling fills the void for labs unfamiliar with LRs and moving to probabilistic solutions and for labs already familiar with LRs but wishing to understand how they are calculated in more detail. The book will be a welcome read for lab professionals and technicians students and legal professionals seeking to understand and apply the techniques covered. | Forensic DNA Profiling A Practical Guide to Assigning Likelihood Ratios
