A Holter for Parkinson’s Disease Motor Symptoms: STAT-On

A new information and communication technology (ICT) has been deployed in the battle against Parkinson’s disease a neurodegenerative disorder that is both progressive and disabling with significant impact on quality of life. This book explains the experience following from the achieved results in the REMPARK project on Parkinson’s disease management up to the launch of a new medical product to the European market STAT-ON™. The new medical device STAT-ON™ is a real Holter for the motor symptoms associated to PD. It provides objective information about the severity and distribution of PD motor symptoms and their fluctuations in daily life allowing for an unbiased and correct monitoring of the patient. This real-time remote monitoring solution gives additional information to neurologists opening up new possibilities for more effective treatment more accurate control in clinical trials and for early detection of motor complications. The number of PD patients is continuously rising adding complexity especially in the management at the level of public health. It is an incurable disease with a symptomatic treatment that tries to alleviate the associated symptoms through a correct adjustment of the medication. For this reason it is also very important to be aware of changes in the manifestation of the symptoms which may indicate the need for an adjustment or even a change in the therapy strategy. The intensive complementary use of STAT-ON™ by neurologists health professionals and researchers will increase the independence and quality of life of patients improving their disease management and contributing to a deeper understanding of the nature of the disease. Assertive Religion Religious Intolerance in a Multicultural World

Assertive Religion Religious Intolerance in a Multicultural World

Questions about religions and religious institutions have changed dramatically since they first arose many years ago. In the beginning of the twenty-first century the link of religion with extreme ideologies captures our attention. Such questions have been the focus of a steadily growing number of books. What does Assertive Religion add to the debate?Emanuel de Kadt discusses the relationship of religion to wider social issues such as human rights and multiculturalism. He traces the growth during the religious revival over the past decades of assertive and even coercive forms of religion notably but not exclusively fundamentalist varieties. He deals with these questions as they relate to the three major Abrahamic religions thereby addressing a readership wider than that made up of persons interested exclusively in Judaism Christianity or Islam. The author takes on issues such as the effects of the Jewishness of Israel on the rights of Palestinians; the consequences of the centralized authority structure of the Roman Catholic Church; and the implications of the failure of reform-oriented Muslims to make their voices heard in an organized Islamic reform movement. He is even-handed focusing on both positive and negative features of each religious perspective though he does have a clear viewpoint. Assertive Religion adds to increasingly sharp political discussions on issues arising out of religion. It is a must read for anyone interested in how religion is shaping the world of tomorrow. | Assertive Religion Religious Intolerance in a Multicultural World

Comprehensive Aphasia Test

Comprehensive Aphasia Test

The Comprehensive Aphasia Test (CAT) is a test for use with people who have acquired aphasia that can be completed over one or two assessment sessions. The test includes a user manual a cognitive screen and language battery and a scoring booklet which are all unchanged since the previous edition and - new to this release - a concise Aphasia Impact Questionnaire which replaces the Disability Questionnaire. The cognitive section assesses people's abilities across a range of task that can affect rehabilitation. Forming the main body of the test the language battery provides a profile of performance across all modalities of language production and comprehension. The Aphasia Impact Questionnaire is a pictorial Patient Reported Outcome Measure which produces both qualitative and quantitative information. It was co-produced with people with aphasia. It supports the person with aphasia to give a subjective rating of how language difficulties identified in the Language Battery affect their daily life enabling first steps towards goal setting. By capturing this information the CAT helps the therapist track changes over the course of recovery and provides a guide to likely outcomes on the basis of an early assessment. The first two sections of the CAT are supported by normative data on people both with and without aphasia and extensive data on reliability and clinical validity. The CAT allows users to: Identify underlying impairments Find where to focus assessments using PALPA and other batteries Ascertain the practical psychological and social impact of aphasia from the perceptive of the person with aphasia Create a profile of strengths and weaknesses to guide therapy. Structured around fully up-to-date models of language assessment from cognitive neuropsychology to patient reported outcome measures test is an indispensable resource for speech and language therapists and researchers. It provides as much information about people's language ability as possible in a relatively brief test designed to be completed in 90-120 minutes. Additional scoring booklets can be ordered in packs of 10 at https://www. routledge. com/Comprehensive-Aphasia-Test-Scoring-Book-pack-of-10/Swinburn-Porter-Howard/p/book/ 9781032128177
