Aria , written in 1930 by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962), is a small study initially for Voice and Piano but arranged in this edition for Flute and Piano. This version and the one for Alto Saxophone and Piano are the ones the most commonly used. The Flute score is one-page long and contains technical difficulties that would make it ideal for an upper intermediate player. Its author, Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) is a neoclassical composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1919. He composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Entertainment' (1930). He also was in charge of the Accadémie de France in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera.

Divertimento is an outstanding composition by Roger Boutry for Alto Saxophone and Harmony Orchestra. This great work is really nice to play and will enlighten the audience. The Orchestra composition required is: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Bassoons, 2 small Clarinets, Clarinet I, Clarinet II, 1 Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, 1 Baritone Saxophone, 4 Horns, 4 Bb or C Trumpets, 4 Trombone or 3 Trombone and an Euphonium, 1 Bb or C Bass, 1 Double Bass, 1 Harp, Timpani, Drum and a Celesta. It is divided into three parts: I. “Allegro ma non troppo”, is strongly rhythmic and syncopated. It includes a Cadenza by the Solo Saxophone and is written as a tribute to Jazz music. II. “Andante”, also includes a Cadenza by the Solo Saxophone but at the end of the section. It is reminiscent of slower blues ballads. III. This part features few sections by the Solo Saxophone but is specially highlighted its ending, in a bright and fast finale. This volume features the score and parts for all the instruments. Born in France in 1932, Roger Boutry received numerous prizes, including those for Piano, Composition and Conducting. He received the Grand Prix de Rome in 1954. His career was quite successful, alternating between Harmony professor, composer and conductor. He also received numerous prizes for his incredible compositions.

Henri Dutilleux: Sonatine (Flute And Piano)

Created in 1943 as part of the four exam pieces for the Paris Conservatoire, this charming Sonatine for Flute and Piano is part of the early works of Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), a French Composer following the paths of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. Even though the composer was later quite critical about it, this Sonatine , which lasts 9 minutes, is the most recorded of his compositions and has become a standard in the flute repertoire. Composed of three movements, it begins with a tempo “Allegretto”, followed by a part more “Andante” and finishes with a cadence “Animé”. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers, among many others.
