Night Piece : (Notturno)

One of only a few Piano Solos composed by Britten, written as a test piece for the very first Leeds Piano Competition. It is a moody, disturbed nocturn, and seems deceptively simple but the skill is in the nuances of touch andrhythm to evoke the sense of dark and foreboding.

The Quest

Younger bands are showcased to their full potential with this rewarding composition with intriguing minor and major harmonies and interesting suspensions. Each performer is challenged to test the limit of his/her developing range while having the comfort of playing scale-like patterns and unison rhythms with the full ensemble. Simple percussion, including glockenspiel and timpani, provide solid support - plus style and panache!
