Zoltán Kodály s complete choral works for mixed voices were published in a new, extended, edition in 2018 (Z. 6725 and Z. 6725A). This volume containing 51 compositions has been edited by the renowned conductor Péter Erdei, one of the most devoted interpreters of Kodály s choral works. The new edition takes into consideration the manuscript sources for the compositions housed in the Kodály Archives in Budapest. The publication features new, easily-legible music scores edited on uniform principles. For better readability, the new edition is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions.The present publication is an offprint from the renewed edition of Kodály s completechoral works for mixed voices. It has the same format as the volume, and has been printed on excellent-quality pale-yellow paper.

Chamber Music for/ Kammermusik für Violoncelli 14 : for 3 violoncellos

This volume contains romantic works arranged for three cellos. The 'Ungarische Melodie' and 'Ungarischer Marsch' were originally piano pieces. Their composer, Franz Schubert, in the summer of 1824 was music teacher to Count Esterházy's family in Zseliz on the Garam. Here from a peasant girl he heard the Hungarian songs that he incorporated in these two works. From Brahms's series of '16 Walzer', Op.39, likewise written for piano, the arranger of the volume paired together two pieces in a ternary form. Debussy's well-known work 'The little Nigar' with its syncopated rhythm evokes the black folk music of New Orleans. The less well-known 'Gavotte' by Dvo ák was originallywritten for three violins. The pieces in the volume provide parts of varying degrees of difficulty for the three cellos, so that less experienced players can also take part in the shared musicmaking.

Fantasie for organ

Ern Dohnányi (1877 - 1960) composed his C minor fantasia in 1892, at the age of fifteen.This work, which is appearing in print now for the first time, is a real curiosity: apart from a few polyphonic stylistic exercises written while he was at the music academy, this is Dohnányi's only piece for organ. The composer later recalled his first acquaintance with that instrument thus: 'My experience with the organ actually dates back to when I was a third-year grammar school student, for beginning with that year I served as organist for the Sunday worship services in the grammar school's church. …These were the first wages I ever earned through music.' The Fantasie wasprepared for publication on the basis of the composer's manuscript by the well-known Dohmányi researcher Deborah Kiszely.

Volume 9 in the series includes two works by Georg Goltermann (1824-1898) written for four cellos. The first work in the volume is the well-known Ständchen by Schubert, and the last is a transcription for four cellos of the equally popular Humoresque by Dvo ák. Since parts III and IV are easy, if the members of the ensemble are of equal ability it is possible in the repeated sections for an exchange of parts to take place between I and III, and between II and IV.

The composer writes the following about this work: 'As if we could only walk sideways in a tilted force field, Petruska-Harlequin in my piece evokes waltz fragments on a capsized 'Titanic', or Berlioz's Romeo und Juliet. Vertiginous chromatic martellato-staccato sequences keep tearing apart the clarinet's virtuosic aerial gymnastics interspersed among the fragments and half-heard wisps of sound. We suddenly find ourselves now in the depths, now in the highest regions, sidelong, as if all these fragments of musical memories were dancing on the edge of the event-horizon of a black hole...' This work, dedicated to the clarinettist Csaba Klenyán, was composed in 2002 inSaskatoon (Canada).

Sonata for Solo Viola (2004)

A virtuoso concert piece originally composed for viola in 2004. (The version for violoncello was written in 2006, the second one for violin in 2010.) As in other works by János Vajda, in the well-proportioned structure of the solo sonata and in its wealth of melodic invention the presence of classical models is clearly perceptible, but conceived in a characteristically postmodern manner. The three movements represent three different characters: the dancing rhythm of the main theme reappears in the last movement as a lively toccata: the middle movement, which abounds in pre-classical figurations, evokes the singing, fantasia-like slow movements of the 18th century. The two outsidemovements are based on the same theme, and the characteristic intervals of this musical idea recur in the slow movement as well.

Notices (1972) for strings, uses traditional forms of reprise, although his instrumentation brings in many soloistic touches and a typically modern thematic sound arises from his long melodies and tight chromaticism. This and his harmonic search for a new treatment of tonality mark an important stage in his return to tradition in the early 1970s. The work alternates between slow passages that resemble a lament and fast, fidgety, clamorous ones. The composed noise at the end of the work forms a notable example of Maros's instrumental technique. (Anna Dalos)

A Panorama of Songs fills a want that has been felt for decades. A selection of songs in six European languages from the 16th to the mid-20th century encompassing every musical period, it seeks to help beginner-level students of voice teachers and répétiteurs, and foremost the singers themselves. The series brings a breath of fresh air and new works to the conventional Lied repertoire, truly offering a new panorama. Using the means of modern technology it also provides immense help in learning and performing the songs. The three volumes of the series are arranged by level of difficulty, and all of them are available for high and low voices ("a" volumes for high voices, "b" volumes for low voices). Each volume is a complete unit in itself, including all six languages (English, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish) and presenting a cross-section of styles from the early Baroque to the 20th century. Interpretation of the songs is facilitated by literal English and Hungarian translations of their texts, and the reading of the Cyrillic script is assisted by transliteration (again in English and Hungarian). Pieces for Violoncello

Not many people know that Ferenc Liszt arranged some of his piano pieces for the cello, with piano accompaniment, and this version of the works appeared in print during the maestro's lifetime. Árpád Pejtsik selected two of these for this volume compiled to mark Liszt's jubilee: Elegies I and II. The other compositions by Liszt that appear in the collection were likewise originally works for piano: the Ave Maria and Cantique d'amour (pieces from the Harmonies poétiques et religieuses cycle) were transcribed by a pupil of Liszt, Robert Pflughaupt: the cello version, transposed into G major, of the E major Consolation is by Jules de Swert, solo cellist in the Weimar orchestraof those days: that of the Angelus (the opening piece in Volume 3 of the cycle entitled Years of Pilgrimage) is by Lothar Windsperger, a German composer who lived at the turn of the 19th-20th century.
