Basics is a collection of 300 practice methods and exercises for the Violin. It can be used by players of all standards, from concert Violinists to students. Much of the material is also suitable for teaching elementaryplayers.Each exercise is designed to achieve the maximum possible result in the least possible time. Some are very short and need to be done only once or twice to explore a particular aspect of technique. Others arepractice routines or warm-up exercises that can be returned to regularly.

Sonatas & Partitas BWV 1001-1006 : BWV 1001-1006 (original Violin solo)

The aim of this edition is to make Bach’s landmark works for solo violin accessible to viola players by presenting a musical text that remains close to the original but also has a distinctly practical focus. Additionally, it provides interpretativeguidance on Baroque performance practices and how they can be applied to the viola. In this transcription, all pieces have been transposed down by a fifth, but no further changes were made.

Music for Children Op.65

This volume brings together music for children, which Prokofiev wrote in 1935 in response to the demand for pedagogical literature. Shenandoah : American Traditional

The ‘VOCES8 singles’ series includes songs for which the group is particularly well known, in choral arrangements produced specifically for VOCES8. This beautiful folk song was commissioned as part of ourfifth anniversary celebrations in 2012, and was included in our EP ‘In the Beginning’ and on our US concert tour. It has always been a fun challenge to perform, with gorgeous flowing lines and a great opening solo forthe bass. Our annual visit to sing for friends in the Shenandoah Valley is never complete without a rendition of this arrangement; performing it at Abbey Road Studios (the film can be found on YouTube) was also anunforgettableexperience.

This new edition of Bach’s French Suites (BWV 812–817) pairs these works with the large-scale French Overture in B minor (BWV 831) from the second part of the Clavier-Übung. Violin Sonatas Volume 2

This complete edition of the Mozart sonatas for violin and keyboard has been researched and prepared by Cliff Eisen, one of the most distinguished Mozart scholars of our time. Professor Eisen recognizes that many ofthe apparent inconsistencies and idiosynchrasies of Mozart's notation are perfectly deliberate, and that the attempts in many other editions to impose uniformity upon similar phrases or musical paragraphs can bemisguided. As hewrites in the preface, '...the notion that the classical style represents a model of symmetry, balance and clarity is for the most part an 19th-century fiction...it has little to do with Mozart's actual practice, which isbasedprimarily on variety of both content and articulation.' So in this new edition, alternative readings found in parallel passages are preserved, rather than being sterilized by a spurious quest for conformity. Naturally allsuch instances are noted within the Critical Commentary. The highly individual beaming within Mozart's autographs is also respected in the new edition, as this often contributes to our aural perceptions of phrase structure andaccent. Professor Eisenis is conscious that there is no single 'Urtext' for this music. On the contrary, he believes that 'there is compelling evidence that Mozart's later performances of his works were characterizedby changes--sometimes substantial changes--in the musical text.' It is the achievement of this edition to indicate how far this freedom of musical expression can extend, and as such it is likely to take pride of place in thecollections of all those involved in the study and performance of these masterpieces.Contents: Sonatas K296, K376-K380; Andante and Fugue K402 (completed by Stadler); Sonata K403 (completed by Stadler).

Christ's Nativity

The text comes from the pen of the seventeenth-century Welsh poet Henry Vaughan, a leading metaphysical voice during the Commonwealth period (1649-1660), when the republican government of Oliver Cromwell banned the Anglican Church. Christ's Nativity was commissioned by the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington D.C. with support from the Richard Wayne Dirksen Memorial Endowment Fund. The selected lyrics by Welsh poet Henry Vaughan fascinated me immensely and therfore prompted me to think about a specific musical environment for the piece, best suited for merging the music into this wonderful poetic landscape. This poetry brings about a strong mixture of the Evangelicalmystery of Christ's Nativity, mystically evoked by Nature, and at the same time reveals the optimism and drama of an ordinary individual that any human being can easily identify with.
