The Surge 2 is the second installment in the soulslike production series, launched in 2017. The production was created by the authors of the original, i.e. the Deck 13 studio, which previously worked with the Polish team of CI Games on the game Lords of the Fallen.
Story
The Surge 2 takes us on a journey to the dark science fiction universe created for the purposes of the first part of the series, in which machines have turned against humans. We meet the main character when his plane is knocked down by a nanostorm over the suburbs of the city of Jericho. A few weeks later, the protagonist wakes up in a ruined prison and quickly notices that the metropolis is plunged into chaos - its streets are raging with rebellious robots, which caused the military to declare martial law, leaving ordinary citizens to their fate. As if that were not enough, a mighty storm hung over Jericho.
Gameplay
In The Surge 2, the action is shown from the third person perspective (TPP). While traversing vast locations, we mainly focus on fighting enemies. Equipped with an exoskeleton, the hero uses melee weapons, but at his disposal there is also a combat drone, the skillful use of which can change the fate of many duel.
The clashes are dynamic, and their tactical sense is useful. We have to carefully observe the adversaries' movements in order to find gaps in their defense as quickly as possible and parry their attacks (if we indicate the direction from which the attack is coming, we will be able to counter). In addition, just like in the first part of the series, you need to target specific body parts of your opponents here. By attacking an armored limb, we can cut it off to take over a given weapon or armament after the end of the skirmish; by focusing on the weak point, we ensure ourselves the ability to perform a quick kill.
In the course of the game, we gain so-called Modular Points, which allow us to increase the vitality, stamina and energy reserve (needed to use the special capabilities of individual armor elements). In addition, the combat potential of the protagonist is increased with the help of special implants that provide him with various skills. The above-mentioned drone is also susceptible to modifications, which makes it an increasingly indispensable support for us in the course of the adventure.
