The Cry of Jeremiah, a four movement work for choir and organ commissioned by the American Guild of Organists, was a smashing success at its premiere in 2012. Hallelujah is the final movement from the work which works equally well with piano. Rosephanye's skill at merging the modern day African-American spiritual with traditional choral music is uncanny and very rewarding to sing.

Combining Psalm 130 and 139, along with a text by Isaac Watts, teacher and composer Robert H. Young gives us another of his a cappella treats. His contemporary madrigal style that incorporates a harmonic romanticism is bestparalleled with a fine dessert. Rich in texture, his writing is so well-crafted, church choirs enjoy singing his work as do fine college ensembles.

The meter changes are plentiful and the music dances along playfully, and we are rewarded with a contemporary madrigal that is undeniably Latin in flavor.

On a March Day

A modern day madrigal, this demonstrates the artistry of Richard Burchard. The Teasdale text paints words of description with much deeper meanings, ultimately releasing the fear of death. The melodic lines outrank expectation with stunning leaps that are surprisingly sensuous. The responsive chorus sections are like joyful dances around the Maypole, playful and buoyant. A wonderful concert or festival piece, medium in difficuilty, selected for the Bruce Rogers series.
