Snow Caps

MusicWorks – Grade 5 Commissioned by the 2004 Jefferson County Honor Band, Denver, CO, and drawing musical inspiration from the awe-inspiring surrounding mountain peaks, this major work from Richard Saucedo exploresa wealth of colors and emotions possible with today's wind orchestra. At times sensitive and delicate with soloistic passages, and alternately incessantly rhythmic and powerful, this composition displays complete command of theidiom and a creative sense of harmony and form. Lux Aurumque : for Orchestra

After Eric Whitacre decided upon the poem by Edward Esch (He was immediately struck by its genuine, elegant simplicity), he had it translated into the Latin by the celebrated American poet Charles Anthony Silvestri. A simpleapproach was essential to the success of the work, and he waited patiently for the tight harmonies to shimmer and glow. Lux Aurumque transcribed for full orchestra in 2015 and was premiered with the Minnesota Orchestra in May ofthat year.

Concerto No. 1 (for Wind Orchestra)

Commissioned for the 2016 South Carolina All-State High School Band, Concerto No. 1 is a spectacular showcase for the entire ensemble rather than just a single soloist. Throughout this dynamic work the entire ensemble is featured, although there are also concerto type moments for solo instruments as well as chamber groups. River Rendezvous : (for Multi-Level Combined Bands)

River Rendezvous conceived as a work for multi-level band festivals, however it also serves as a dynamic stand-alone composition for grade 3 bands. Representing moods and scenes of the Fox River in southern Wisconsin, the two contrasting movements may be performed separately or together. The primary themes in each movement are simple enough for beginning players, and are then embellished and developed in the more advanced levels. O Waly, Waly : (A Rhapsody for Band)

Dating from the 1600s, the folk song “O Waly, Waly” (commonly known as “The Water is Wide”) forms the basis for this well-crafted rhapsody for band. The lyrical opening section features solos on flute andeuphonium, as a four-note motif common to this song and also “Carolina” (South Caroline's official song) is developed. This motif unifies the entire work. A Celtic flavored Allegro takes over using this fragment, whichleads ultimately to a grand Maestoso section for the entire ensemble.
