Belgian composer René Barbier (1890 - 1981) was born in Namur and studied music composition with at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Paul Gilson, and the Conservatory of Liège with Sylvain Dupuis. His Concerto for Guitar was first published in 1966 and is presented here in reduction form for guitar and piano. Bart Verstraeten (Belgium - °1981) started his musical education at the Music Academy of Sint-Niklaas. He obtained his Master’s Degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, where he took lessons in harmony, counterpoint and fugue with Peter Thomas, in 2004 and in 2007 his Master’s Degree in Composition where he was tutored by Luc Van Hove and Wim Henderickx. He graduated a Master of the Performing Arts (Piano) at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in 2014 under the auspices of Johan Duijck. He received additional piano instruction at the hands of maestros Jonathan Powell, Eliane Rodrigues and Irene Russo. Currently he teaches courses in harmony, composition, solo piano andaccompaniment at the municipal academies for Music and Drama in Deurne and Wilrijk (Antwerp). Belgian composer Franz Constant (1910-1996) was born in Montignies-le-Tilleul and studied at the Charleroi Academy of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels. His composition teachers there were Leon Jongen, Francis de Bourguignon, and Jean Absil, as well as some additional studies with Henri Tomasi in Paris. His Concerto for Saxophone was composed in 1963 as the imposed piece for the conservatories in Brussels, Ghent and Mons. Patrick Hiketick is a Belgian pianist and composer. As a composer he worked for nearly all theatre companies in Flanders and he wrote over a 100 different theatre plays, amongst which the complete oeuvre of Molière and Shakespeare. He was also the musical director for all Brecht plays for KNS theatre in Antwerp, where he worked as the home composer for 10 years. He than became the musical coordinator for the Royal Ballet of Flanders and he wrote several ballet compositions for symphony orchestra. He has his own close-harmony and jazz trio, and he works freelance as a composer and as artistic director in several musical productions.
