Leonard Constant Lambert, composer, writer, and conductor, was born in London, on August 23rd, 1905. He was a student of Ralph Vaughan Williams, protege of Arthur Bliss, and close friend and rival of William Walton. Thepresent Suite for Piano was written when the composer was 19 years old. Constant Lambert died on August 21st, 1951 (as a result of pneumonia and undiagnosed diabetes, complicated by acute alcoholism), and was laid to rest inBrompton Cemetery, London.

When he meets her one day, his love for her returns and they resolve to fly together. Norma curses Sever for his treachery, and is about to kill her children but finally confides them to the care of her rival. She denounces Sever and he is seized by the Druids. The funeral pyre is lighted, and ascending it, Norma dies with her lover.This is the Schirmer edition of the Vocal Score in the original Italian text.

Kevin Volans'  L’Africaine for Piano solo. Duration: 22 minutes. Composers Note: Most of the piano music I have written has focussed on a number of 20th century musical concerns: with complex rhythmic patterning, a- and poly-tonality, multiple layering of parts, on occasion introducing different tone colours (like playing inside the instrument or electronic modulation) – but above all, resonance.  The development of the piano in 19th century, with its increased size, pitch and dynamic range, led above all to an instrument capable of rich and full resonance, that could rival even an orchestra. All centred around the pedal – in Anton Rubinstein's words: The soul of the piano.  This time I thought it would be interesting to write a piece which pays no attention to this tradition; to write a piece from the point of view of some African compositional methods and ways of patterning – mainly interlocking parts which result in shifting downbeats. For a large part of the piece I treat the left and right hands as two complementary performers.  So, hardly any pedal, no concerns with contemporary harmony, style, structure or technology. I did slip in a slightly concealed reference to Debussy's  L'Isle Joyeuse , however. The piece is roughly 22 minutes long, in three sections, and the title is a slightly tongue-in-cheek reference to Couperin.

The 10th volume of Domenico Scarlatti’s Sonate per clavicembalo represents a crucial landmark of this series, i.e. the thirty Essercizi per gravicembalo (London, 1738-39) at the heart of the composer’s production. For a long time, the style of these sonatas and their role in the history of keyboard music has been debated. But nobody had ever examined thoroughly the key aspects of textual criticism, intended not only as a detailed reconstruction of the text, but as a philological study with a full scope. This volume is the first step in such direction. The musical text of this edition is the result of a systematic comparison of all the eighteenth century printed and manuscript sources preserving Scarlatti’s treasured Essercizi. In some cases, the edition presents an alternative version of the same sonata, based on the sources’ examination and sometimes showing an intricate web of authorial variants. The detailed Critical Notes take into account all the variants handed down by the sources. Many topics are discussed in the rich Introduction, first and foremost the historical context and the genesis of Scarlatti’s sonatas. Furthermore, other important topics are investigated, such as: the relationship between the Essercizi and the rival Londonese edition by Roseingrave: the role and chronology of the contemporary French editions, known under the name of Boivin: the early interventions of anonymous performers.
