Cloud Factory is an industrial piece, inspired by a huge steel plant in Holland. Following an opening section that recalls the sounds of the nearby North Sea, we hear the factory locomotives, the machinery and finally, with metallic timbres, the steel product is presented in musical form. Special vocal effects and unusual percussive sounds give this creative work an extraordinary feel!

Where Angels Fly : In loving memory of Jesse Lefebvre (°02/06/2007 - *24/02/2015)

Commissioned by Banda de Musica Municipal de Silleda (ES), Kevin Houben has written this work for the Certamen de Valencia 2018 in Spain. Where Angels Fly is a very technical, powerful and virtuoso work, with a rather fragile and soft introduction in which the main motif – derived from Paul Gilson’s La Prière from Le Retour aux Pays – is developed and also includes Houben’s own musical signature ‘HBE(N)’. Steven Spielberg's 2002 film Catch Me If You Can was set in the 1960s, and John Williams created a marvelous film score evoking the style of the progressive jazz movement popular during that time. Soloists on altosaxophone, vibraphone and string bass are featured in this suite of three contrasting movements. “Closing In” relates to the often humorous sleuthing ever present in the story. This is followed by“Reflections” portraying the fragile family relationships, and finally “Joy Ride” representing the main character's wild flights of fantasy. Dur: 13:00

Elegy I : Jealousy

Elegy I ‘Jealousy’ has been named after John Donne’s poem of the same name. This English poet (1572-1631) wrote an entire series of elegies, each with its own theme. Jealousy can trigger various emotions, ranging from disappointment, grief, or regret, to madness and anger. All these emotions have been incorporated into this composition. Jacob de Haan was inspired by three different works of art: a poem (the aforementioned poem by John Donne), a painting by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (Jealousy in the Garden) and an old French chanson about jealousy (Je ne l’ose dire) by the sixteenth-century French composer Pierre Certon. The music refers repeatedly to thischanson - sometimes through key notes from the melody that serve as the starting point for new, isolated themes and sometimes through quotations of the original version.

The fifth volume in the series of organ works includes, in chronological order, the organ pieces Max Reger composed in autumn 1892 in Weiden and Wiesbaden, and those composed between January 1900 and April 1902 in Weiden and Munich. The works presented in Vols. I/5-7 are, except for the works without opus numbers, collections of character pieces, not composed as cycles, but nevertheless arranged systematically. They mainly combine Reger’s compositions of medium difficulty, written both as a response to his large-scale works, but also with an eye to the market for printed music.

The rather rare combination of soprano and fanfare band makes this piece a unique addition to the repertoire!

Far From Here : Song Cycle for Chorus and Orchestra

Written for the Greenwich High School choir and orchestra, Emmy award-winning and Grammy-nominated musician, and GHS parent, Rob Mathes, wrote a song cycle entitled Far From Here as a tribute to the GHS students' and their upcoming graduation.
